***Official*** Pakistan in New Zealand 2016/17

I don't understand why teams are so passive in these situations, it's like they're scared of looking like idiots on the 0.1% chance they lose or they want to preserve their averages or something. NZ should have started trying to score really quickly when their lead crossed about 150 so they had 1-2 hours to bowl tonigh (if they lost too many wickets they could've just fall back into batting the rest of the day). Kohli seems to be the only captain who has any clue how to apporach these spots.
It's a score that two good innings can make feel very small, in conditions that weren't really that trying against a bowling attack that is variable and inconsistent.

Henry isn't a wicket taker, Southee could easily go back to poo Southee, Santner isn't proven yet, De Grandhomme is more fluke than skill in his wickets to date in the series, Wagner is the only one amongst this line up that has consistently taken wickets over the last few years. Pakistan need fours an over which will mean they won't go for it until probably midway through the afternoon session.

NZ should win, or at the very least draw, but there are a few Pakistani's due a contribution, in conditions that are more like a late Day 3 rather than Day 5 wicket. We just cantered to 313/5 in 85 overs.

Just realistic tbf, what do you want me to say... it's was an excellent innings, just making the point it's not like the game was on a knives edge at that point, even if it was a 3rd innings ton.
It was an important knock, but the tough work had been done by Latham and Williamson - which is why it's disappointing neither one went on to make it a big one.

Doesn't absolve the fact that he's been a vacant member of the side for the past three years when it really needed him to step up for it, but lets hope this is him coming back into a bit of form against sides that aren't Sri Lanka or West Indies

Wasn't expecting a declaration this soon tbh.

Younis 4th innings special isn't out of the question. If only Pakistan had Misbah.

You're dreaming... Misbah doesn't win it for them from here... not in a million years.

Not relevant in the slightest.

They've pulled off more outrageous chases than this tbh. Don't think theyll do it this time but it's hardly as unlikely as you're making it seem.

Yeah suggesting that it is impossible to chase it down is naive. Why is Zinzan so abrasive these days anyway?
No I'm suggesting NZ wouldn't have declared as soon had Misbah been in the side. The declaration was horses for courses in that respect. I would have thought that was fairly obvious. Had we been bowled out, it would have been a reasonable hypothetical.

It's the way in which you're reading his posts,

I find him one of the more rational, logic and concise posters, never have disagreements with him because he says **** like it is and doesn't get personal.

The way NZ fans carry on around here (me included) all NZ games are on a knife edge at all times. Especially when we're 'winning' ;)

Perhaps the game situation wasn't at max intensity, but Ross Taylor did have to overcome a lot of personal pressure over his form.

Wasn't obvious to me. I was looking at that from the perspective of Misbah being in the side and being given this score to chase. Fair enough then.

What a horrendous indictment on Zinzan

I have always been reading his posts though and I genuinely like him as a poster.

Fantastic knock from Ross. Never saw him once consume any jelly beans, hard jubes or take a shot of insulin, which makes it even more meritorious. Gutsy.

Sarfraz is capable of really taking the attack to us, although he hasn't shown that much outside of Asia.

Depends how you view it, Mr Insulin had the perfect excuse for non performance because he's already booked in for surgery on his eye issues, he came in with his side effectively 2/150 in easy batting conditions with a tiring bowling attack that didn't have the utility of Yasir Shah available. He still had to put the knock together and it was definitely an important one in the context of this match, but let's not make it out to be any more than it is. The guy has been absolutely rubbish for three years with very few exceptions where to his credit, he makes big scores.
