The Kane Williamson Average Watch thread

Will Kane average 50 in both ODIs and Tests at some point before Feb 2017?

S-myth would pray for 13 in NZ in these conditions this morning.
Smith had scores of 71,138 & 53* in the 2 tests earlier this year on pitches NZ batsmen failed on.

Incidentally, there's not much wrong with this wicket in reality. Case of bark worse than bite.

If fact you said yourself that swing is all that matters in Hamilton, and it ain't been swinging much.

Ah yes, the one season we prepared roads...

Keep on thinking Smyth will end up with an average over 50; the only way that happens is that he gets dropped similar to Voges or Kambli.

Considering he averages close to 58 after almost 50 tests, he'd need to plummet pretty sensationally in his next 40 tests or so to drop below 50, & judging from the last Test when he stood out like a sore thumb with the bat compared to his teammates, doesn't look like it's going to happen anytime soon.

Are we still celebrating 44* scratchy runs in a total of 85 that his team got dusted up in?

He may well finish over 50, mostly due to 5 match test series against India and West Indies in Australia; but he's no where near the batsman that the true top three are.

You can keep repeating that, only you keep being countered on each individual point you're making against him.

All the evidence we have suggest he would do well on NZ pitches, even ones NZ batsmen got bowled out comfortably on. Let alone this pitch today which has clearly flattered to deceive in terms of being a minefield.

Actually I'm not - the average Smith has is heavily dependent on two series in Australia against India and the West Indies, removed from that, his average plummets to about 45 - he's also been found wanting in tough batting conditions consistently. He's a 45-48 average batsman, not a 55 average batsman.

Look at Taylor against the same sides, he'd be a 55-60 average batsman if he got five test series against Windies and India in the conditions they play in, in Aus.

Smith is almost as bad of a captain as Williamson is too, to boot.

Also, look at his limited overs + T20 cricket to get an indication that he's been on the better side of luck in test cricket versus Kohli, Root, ABDV, Williamson who are all equally good in the limited overs stuff as they are the test stuff.

Pounded easy runs against West Indies and India, did nothing when it mattered for his side - I dislike that, it's the same reason I dislike Ross Taylor.

Joe Root vs Steve Smith:

Avg away from home : 53.4 with 7 hundreds for Smith; 46.16 with 3 hundreds for Root.
Overall average is more than 5 points better than Root's.
Smith's lowest average away from home is 41+, Root's is 17.60 and he has 2 other countries where he averages less than 30.

Smith is the best batsman in the world.
