That's amazing captaincy from Faf, declaring there. Love it. I wonder if he timed it to keep Warner from opening? If so, the man's a genius. Even if not, it's the sort of assertive stuff we don't see enough of nowadays.

If he had known that Warner was off the field for too long it'd be one of the most epic trolls in cricketing history.

CSA wont change their mind... but deVillers could be the bigger man here and hand it over to Faf.
Not really his to hand over though. Unless he declines the captaincy and makes up some story about wanting to concentrate on his batting.

Faf will go down memory lane with Abraham & tell him for the good of the nation, please stand down my good old friend. Faftastic captain is here.

I think he's done the right thing. They've got a nice few bonus runs to get to a half decent total and the of another at most 20 runs or so is less than the advantage they could get by bowling to Australia now under lights. Plus, they've won the series. Perfect time to have a crazy gamble.
Yeah & not really crazy if Faf genuinely got the word Warner couldn't bat for a time on top of the unknown of the new ball under lights. Feels more calculated than a 50/50 gamble.

Eh, would Shamsi have survived much longer anyway? I think it's a gamble well worth taking. Imo it's a good decision regardless of whether it works.
Who knows, the winning margin in a low scoring game could come down to 20 runs or fewer. And time's never going to be a factor here. Objectively, the only way this decision can be judged as good is if they pick up at least 2 wickets in the next 10 overs.

Most of the first two sessions Australia bowled well. They basically turned full ****** after the dinner break though.
The purpose and energy they had in middle session just seemed to disappear post-Tea in first 15 mins and Faf & Abbott seemed to sense this and counter-attacked very well; even their running seemed to be aggressive and put Oz on back foot.

I choose to believe he did. Even though there's probably no way he actually knew.
I think it's even more of a stretch to think that he made a counterintuitive declaration and just happened to get that as an inadvertent bonus tbh. He clearly knew/was told.
