Before the bum slap there was the hand shake. Watch some old footage from just after WWII for examples. There's a clip of Don Tallon taking a ridiculous one handed grab down the leg side of either Lindwall or Miller on the 1948 tour, and his team mates just clap him from the positions they're in and first slip shakes his hand. I don't even think there's a team huddle, they just got on with it and waited for the next poor **** to come in and cop it.

Must say I quite like that.

Got up this morning and drove to Wollongong to watch the rep game. Parra batting first and I'm getting reports we're 3/30 and the young bloke is in.

Driving along and getting updates he's batting well, etc. get to the game and watch him punch one through the off side for two then run himself out next ball for 30. Gonna charge him petrol money. Idiot.

Got in the car and drove back home. Three hour round trip for one back foot drive. Fml.

Lol.. and you talk about TOTAB. What kind of a father are you, letting your son bat like Greg Chappell when he can bat like Allan Border.. :p

If Burge Bluth Sr's kid makes it big as an international cricketer, who will be the worse cricketing dad? Yograj Singh or Burgey?

I can't see that happening tbh. But in any event I'm a pretty good cricket dad. Only thing I really want to work on with him now is his maturity in accepting when he's ****ed up, like he did yesterday.

I tried to get him to bat left handed when he was younger, on the Mike Hussey/ Peter Roebuck philosophy that it would make his top hand more dominant than the bottom, but he wouldn't be in it.

Its actually reasonably sound philosophy, I think. Lara, Chanderpaul... nowadays Stokes... Decent players have come out of that philosophy :)

Yea love this.

More journalists need to call out the hypocrites who think spin bowling/asian pitches are not 'real cricket', as though there is something inherently flawed with that aspect of cricket versus other aspects.
Yes.

Indian pitches are all crap. Win the toss, bat first and it's over.

Bollocks.

I don't care if the next 10 tests in India are won by the side batting first..........it is not the fault of the wickets, it's because the team that batted second wasn't good enough.

Yes winning the toss can be a big advantage, as it is at Adelaide and Lords and many other grounds around the world. But good teams do not get beaten at the toss.
