Just rip Taylor's eyes out and replace them with cyborg ones.
He's past it in the field, he's not performing with the bat and hasn't done for quite some time and he wouldn't be missed.

The problem is Taylor is an ATG batsman for NZ and we've not usually had talent of his caliber anywhere near the test side in the past, so it's hard to drop him because we keep hoping he's going to turn back into the 2011-2012 Taylor where it's more likely he'll never be at that level again, against tough opposition. He's been woeful outside of a few blips like the 290 against Australia (that saved an otherwise terrible season where he was averaging mid to low twenties) and his bullying of teams like Zimbabwe and the West Indies.

It's time to put the guy out to pasture, but we'll continue playing him for the next few seasons because that's NZ cricket to a tee.

Garry Hermannson.
Can't recommend him highly enough ftr. I've seen what he can do firsthand.

Yessss Brownlie

If he does play and makes a decent score, I say we start calling him Deano to piss Burgey off

Why not Lord Gregory Hay? A player that should have been picked years ago based on stats. Taylor was the one that pretty much kept him out of the team back then anyway. His innings earlier this year shows he's prepared to graft, have no idea why hes been moved to opener though.

I believe Anderson is probably the best option as specialist batsman for a one-off test. He's not great but he has the mental toughness to grind out runs.

Disagree with that, He's not the best specialist batting option we have for a one-off Test, surely. I can just as easily see him missing a straight one early on & then walking off with that bewildered look on his face Anderson is so expert at.

I think Anderson is incredibly overrated at Test level ftr, with both bat & ball.

Brownlie >> Anderson against pace bowling every time at Test level.

Doesn't really matter considering Anderson has done what Anderson does and got himself injured, probably out for the season with some hot spots in his back causing pain.

Slight loss in the colour clothing forms.

nah anderson bowling at full tilt is a boss bowler. Anderson bowling within himself in a test match to avoid injury is piss though

The guy needs to give away the idea of bowling, it would be different if he was actually an effective bowler but he's not. Neesham is almost in the same camp.
55 ODI wckets @ 25 would say he is actually pretty good. Exceptional for an all rounder. Neesh seems very ineffective however. Needs to develop some swing or seam. He has the talent to be a good No 6 and 4th seamer.

I wonder if we'll ever see a effective combo of these 2 in our Test middle order, bowling fit. Damn we would bat deep, especially if Santa was there.

You are aware we're talking about Test cricket though right? Anderson's ODI exploits are not relevant to this discussion.

Even his ODI wickets are questionable, goes at over six and tends to bowl when the batting team are trying to hit the bowlers out of the attack. On average only completes half the potential overs that he could bowl per innings. I don't think we lose anything by not having Anderson the bowler in ODI Cricket.

Test Cricket, he's just pure mud.

In test cricket he can have a bit of a golden arm to pick up a wicket from nowhere in a similar way Astle and McMillan could.

Or at least, he did when he first started test cricket.

Yeah sorry I was more talking in general. He's showed talent with the ball in international cricket, which counts for something. To measure ODI vs Test cricket is a different thing altogether. I'd trust him to hold an end, but not a front liner.

Neesham is more suited to the 6 role in test cricket imo. Anderson more suited for 6 in ODI format definitely.

I think Munro has to have a go at 5 tbh. Similar type player to BMac in that exact role and has the ability to change a game in a session... How does a guy who averages near on 50 in FC not get more than 1 test match? Baffling.

I'd love nothing more than Munro to get a crack, but that's for slightly irrational reasons since he's a personal favourite of mine & I think he's the closest replacement to McCullum as an attacking batsman at 5.

That said, the same world authorities who informed us that Raval was a 2nd rate hack, also informed us that Munro will never be any good as a middle order Test batsman, since he scores too many runs in Auckland & we have so many other Test class batsman like Nicholls lined up.... Oh & also that Munro's FC average of almost 50 apparently doesn't count. :p

Hey stop lumping anti-Raval arguments together.

Munro averages 51 in Auckland and 44.8 away from Auckland.

I ain't got no problems with him.

Pleased to hear it. I think it was the other world authority who decided Munro will never make it in whites.
