Just how deep does England's Test XI bat? They have Adil Rashid with 10 FC tons, Ben Stokes with 12 tons (and 4 in Tests), Stuart Broad with one century (in a Test match) and 19 50s (with 10 in Tests), Zafar Ansari with three FC tons and 15 FC 50s and Anderson having played long enough to be a decent #11. These are not tailenders by any means.

Why is playing a 4th seamer pointless, especially when your third spinner is as bad as Ansari? Woakes probably would have bowled more than Ansari's 12 overs, for less than the 44 runs he conceded, with more chance of taking a wicket too. The issue over who bats at 4 is just a bad joke. How did Balance get recalled to the side? How did he get picked for the winter after his performances against Pakistan in the summer? How did he get picked for the squad AGAIN after Bangladesh? It gets better. How is Duckett in the team without being able to play the forward defence? It's got to the stage where we may as well pick Buttler at 4 despite doing nothing in 1st Class cricket for goodness knows how long because, well, he can't do any worse.

Was thinking Woakes would return to replace Broad who looks injured. Not that it matters much. Could always let Finn bowl some slow pies I guess.

This might be Ash's best 5fer. Not much turn on the pitch and he used drift, flight and angles to get all his wickets. Awesome.
