Is there a better pundit than Ponting right now? Not in my books

Ponting wasn’t impressed with Warner’s shot on a green deck and with the ball moving around.

“He has got the knack of setting innings up pretty quickly like he did in Perth,” Ponting told BT Sport.

“But that to me is still quite reckless as a shot for an opening batsman.

“On these sort of pitches, you are looking to score the majority of your early runs off the back foot; defend well on the front foot, leave on the front foot, wait for the bowlers to get a little bit short, and make them pay.”

Reminder it's only a bad shot because he got out in the book of TJB.

But yeah Ponting is fantastic

If Australia lose this, does Smith lose the captaincy to Warner?
Hmmm think Warner has to earn far more of a blame for this Test than Smith (though his batting with the tail was not good). I do have concerns over his captaincy, but am not convinced Warner would be much better.

Who's the best captain at Shield level? Wonder if we should just go full Brearley and pick a player on his leadership, because this side has none of it.

Bailey probably? Unless Head's is much better than I think.

Warner as captain? Honestly? I know Smith is pretty average, but haven't Australia's troubles centred around their batting? I can only think Smith's part in the environment could impact on that, and even then that's much more of a Lehmann issue. And David Warner is a good/great player whatever, but what evidence suggests that Warner has any idea how to captain a side, how to lead a side, how to deal with the media, the pressure, etc.

Seems to me like the selectors and Lehmann should be in the gun before Smith.

Until Australia address their absolute abysmal ability to play the moving ball, be it in the air or off the pitch, they could appoint Mike Brearley as a specialist 12th fielder/skipper and it wouldn't make a **** of difference.

Loved Warne and Taylor going full Shastri last night and shilling hard with regards to Mennie's batting on behalf of CA.

Almost like someone had a word in their ear.
