Amazing nuance in this thread. Either a player is amazing and unimpeachable or a complete hack with no in-between. A+.

Perth is basically SA's home ground now. Drew in 2005, and on course to win for the 3rd successive time. Australia really should consider not playing there against them.
It is the most South Africa kind wicket with more pace and bounce than the average Australian one, so makes sense.

Still our attack is not the issue. Pretty much every Test we've lost in recent years has come down to some massive collapse; only a few times have we genuinely bowled dross.
Damn does this sounds familiar. The bowlers continually bail out the batsmen, but when the bowlers don't have a great innings it becomes easy for some to heap blame on them, forgetting that the batting is a constant failure. Almost taking that fact for granted.

The aussie giants of CW have been collapsing and following the pattern of the team. morgieb made a desperate attempt by bringing up kallis but PEWS also nowhere to be seen.

Time to close this thread.

Australia are about to lose a Test to a AB-less, Steyn-less, 10 man South Africa side featuring a debutant spinner, by atleast 150+ runs, at Perth, after having been 158/0 in response to 242 a/o in the first innings.

I know Australia fans have been complaining about batting collapses like they're de regueur for a while, but they were usually away from home with mitigating factors and there were none such here.

I also can't think of a test match with a greater swing from total dominance to a complete flogging going back a while, perhaps to the Laxman 281 test. Some of you watch a lot more cricket than me though and can perhaps think of some.

Australia dominated this game for a day and a half. South Africa started clawing their way back from the final session on Day 2. Earlier this year, Pakistan dominated the third test for a little more than 3 days and still lost the game on Day 5. Collapsed in 2 sessions.

In the third test 2012 between England and Pakistan, England bowled out Pakistan for 99 on Day 1 and still lost the match.

India collapsed in the first test against Sri Lanka last year from a position of dominance and lost the game.

Collapses are not unusual or rare. Maybe in the last few years we have a seen a fair few Australian collapses so it appears as if its an Australian thing. It's not. It's just test cricket. It can slip away from you very fast, you can claw your way back in as well.
