If I told you that AB wouldn't be playing, Steyn would get injured and barely bowl, and Amla would fail in both innings, you'd presume Saffers would lose by a gigantic margin. Instead they are bossing it.
Given that AB is the most overrated batsman in the world and Steyn is a hasbeen, that totally makes sense

In the annals of time when it pertains to this lovely sport the "choke" word has always haunted South Africa. But when one looks back on their dominance in test cricket over the last ten years or so I would say the opposite is true. The proteas are a fine example of a side who has loads of quality yes, but also have an incredible belief in themselves and fight to the very end. As Leicester showed last season belief can take you a long way. Belief AND talent though can take you from being 32/4 on the first day, facing 150/0 on the second day, to now leading by over 300 runs with six wickets left. Just wonderful stuff from SA this tbh.

The only bloke in world cricket who didn't **** their pants against Mitch Johnson in full flight. Yeah he's overrated.

Also loved watching Herschelle Gibbs keep running down the wicket to MJ and planting him over extra-cover for 6 in the ODI's a few times. Nuts.

Because it is a word that is lazily applied to pretty much every time South Africa fails in a major tournament without ever considering the cricketing factors. In tests, what makes this generation special is their ability to come back and the grit and fight they showed..in England 2012 when Cook dominated Day 1 only for SA to come back and dismantle England on Day 2, or chasing 414 in 08 or the Melbourne game of that same series or Faf batting out a draw in Adelaide. They have also became number 1 following a very different approach to the Aussies - by making sure they don't lose away series. They kept drawing series, games and just made sure they were unbeatable over the widest range of conditions and that's all you need to be number 1

It sucks that not only do these guys not watching cricket, they can publicly say so without any problem.
Goes back to that glorious Geoff Lemon article

Wriddhiman Saha would never have seen the Adelaide Oval, declared Brayshaw, when Saha’s grand total of two career Tests included an Adelaide debut. The most cursory glance at Cricinfo would have done the trick. “Gee, you’re unlucky,” was Slater’s vacant-grinning response. Or later in the series, Brayshaw again: “If you’re the Indian fast bowling coach – I don’t even know who that is, by the way...”

There’s a deliberate idiocy at work here: not just not knowing, but making a point of not knowing, and of telling us he doesn’t know.

Faf should know better than to pick the ball up and pass it to them, lest they surround him like a 'pack of dogs'

They'd have gladly taken 350 at the start of the innings, but they're so well-placed now that anything less than 450+ would be seen as a touch disappointing.

Marsh probably has the worst haircut in the cricketing world. Looks revolting when it flops about as he runs in to bowl.
