United are a basket case of a club minus Ferguson aren't they?
It was always going to happen. He ruled with an iron fist and I think the players have slacked off since he left. The incoming managers have been handicapped by senior players who formed a power base. Rooney being obvious example. The constants since the retirement are the Glazers and Woodward. The latter seems to be a complete moron who knows nothing about running a football club.

I think a few of the player purchases have reeked of marketing influence and wonder who really is pulling the strings. Pogba, Kagawa, Hernandez could have been brand influenced and Dong the Chinese player who never played 1st team was nothing but that. The Glazers have made a ton of money of branding and things still looked fine with Ferguson. Since then it's Woodward, 3 managers, expensive signings and big wages. JM needs time but if it's 4th or get sacked like Moyes and LVG he may not get it.

Javier Hernandez? Strange shout if so. Ibrahimovic very clearly brand-driven though.

We're surely odds-against to get 4th at this stage. Need to finish above two of Citeh, Chelsea, Arsenal, Spurs, and Liverpool; our performances this season are a league below all of those teams.

I think the board intend to keep Mourinho even if he doesn't make top 4. But in practice the process of finishing 5th or 6th would probably be too messy. I think he might even step down, he seems so miserable all the time.

What kind of reaction will Micky get when we come to your place in the league next season?

Jose Mourinho struggling with hotel lifestyle in Manchester - Independent.ie

These sort of stuff in the press won't help either.

I went to a few tour games while Hernandez was with us and the amount of shirts I saw with his name was amazing. I also saw more shirts period and I'm in the Midwest. I think it helped the US Latino profile a great deal.

Yeah I remember a lot of Chicharito shirts but I'd guess that's probably because he was so good (at least for a season or two) and everybody loved him.

Haha Dong. Someone should the dig the threads where Rose made impassioned claims that he was signed for footballing reasons.

That he was so good was a bonus as I suspect it wasn't the main reason we bought him. He came across as a really nice genuine guy in interviews which l really liked.

I dunno about this. Sounds a lot like conjecture. I can recall a number of news articles that came out in the months leading up to the World Cup in 2010 mentioning how he was apparently getting rave reviews from a number of European scouts.

I don't think he even had much commercial appeal when we signed him, certainly not beyond the fact that he was widely believed to be a really good player and huge bargain. No brand to speak of and Mexico isn't an enormous market.

Getting a bit derailed though. I completely agree with the general point, Schweinsteiger was another. They don't even really try to hide it, you hear upper management talk a lot about the need for a "marquee" signing i.e. a big name at an age where Fergie would have been shipping him off to Italy.

To be fair, "marquee signings" can also be really good at football on occasion. But yeah I too agree with the general point overall.

He shouldn't live in the ****ing Lowry then should he? Its a ridiculously busy hotel for the pap's, as not only do Utd use it as their base for travelling to games, pretty much any celebrity coming to Manchester stays in it (especially those playing at the Arena), so there's always loads of screaming girls about outside too.

Mancini lived in there when he was at City, and he got absolute torrents of abuse every time he came out of the building, mainly because most people in our building next door were Reds.

We are in the habit of making a complete hash of them since Ferguson.
United's transfer strategy since Ferguson left basically seems to consist of throwing lots of money around as if desperately trying to remind everyone that they're still important.

Doesn't help that their managerial recruitment has been severely flawed since Ferguson left either.

Our defensive shape when closing games out is sooo much better than under Moyes or LVG. Would have saved us a lot of points last season.

How long till West Ham have to play behind closed doors then?

The fact half the southern media support them means they have got off lightly from the press so far. If this had been any other club they would have been getting slaughtered over all the incidents inside the ground this season.
