Much higher rate of wickets per match and a far better strike rate with a marginally lower average.... I'll take Steyn's record any day. He's the best overseas bowler ever in the SC as far as I'm concerned.
If we take overall records on the subcontinent and not just the last decade then the only foreign fast bowler that compares to Steyn on the SC is Marshall. Everyone else is well behind. The only way anderson gets into any of these discussions about greats is when stats are manipulated.

Back to the real cricket. Decent warmup game for SA. On Rossouw as an opener compared to van Zyl. Van Zyl had never ever opened so was a total experiment. RR has opened in white ball cricket for quite a few seasons.

The lack of self awareness of his shitness vs spin is frightening.

And I've never understood the tactic of bitching about selectors in public. Katman did it. Brad Williams did it. Just a weird way to make them select you again tbh

Don't think this post needed 'vs spin'.

Potting the current lot when you're one of the best bats in the side, reckon it's him trying to get a new panel in?

Usman is right that he and Burns were made scapegoats for the 3rd Test… but it was justified. If you can’t make changes to a batting lineup after the way Oz batted in the first Two Tests of that series you never will.

That Shaun Marsh made more runs in his first innings in the 3rd Test than Khawaja/Burns combined in the first two suggests it was a justified call.

No. You didn't watch that series because you have no idea what you're talking about. When SA toured the UAE did have some of its flattest tracks in the last 5 years. They weren't even conducive to spin IIRC
The 2010 series yes. That was Pakistan's first series in UAE post the March 09 attacks and the pitches were not of great quality. Both games ended in draws as both teams failed to take 20 wickets.

Agree with all of this. It was somewhat "unfair" that they were dropped after 2 tests, after dominating for the best part of a year. But that doesn't mean it was the wrong decision.

It would be the wrong decision re. Khawaja if they kept him dropped after leaving Asia, which would have been batshit crazy as he's easily the 3rd best bat in Australia. I think it was idiotic that he was left out of the ODI series v South Africa.

The official line from CA for the dropping of Khawaja and Burns for the 3rd test in Sri Lanka was -

"This is a one -off situation due to the conditions the games are being played under"

At the time it was a point of comment that if the replacements did well would the original incumbents get their place back ?

And Marsh went on to score a century as a one of the one off replacements..

Will the selectors stick to the "This is a one-off " selection call ?

Is what I think they may run with. Voges will want to score heavy IMO as will the Whinge. If they don't I reckon one will make way for Darsh.

Not sure about the third quick. Didn't see how Siddle bowled in the ODD stuff. They might go for 120kph into the wind WACA specialist The Duke to get pongoed all over the shop. Maybe Bird. Dougeh's papers have been marked it seems.

Getting pretty pumped for this series. Nov 3 can't get here sooner. SA please don't suck and make this series a rehash of last year's 2015 summer when a certain team came with a lot of expectation and promise

usman had the summer of a lifetime in 15/16 across all formats - felt like he should have been immune to being dropped after 2 poor tests but whatever it's always 'what have you done for me lately' with cricket selections

only really from their own fans tbh

I know I wasn't expecting much. I expect more from SA than I did from NZ last year
