Essex County Cricket Club are delighted to announce the signing of South African bowling all-rounder Simon Harmer. The 27-year-old has signed a one-year contract with the Club and will qualify as a ‘Kolpak’ player for the 2017 season.
After making his Test debut for South Africa in January 2015, the off-spinner has gone on to make five Test appearances for his country. He has taken 20 wickets at an average of 29.40 with best match figures of 7/153.
In domestic cricket, Harmer plys his trade for the Warriors and has made 78 first class, 49 List A and 41 T20 appearances respectively. The Pretoria-born man will be available in all competitions for the club next season and will add a valuable spin option to Chris Silverwood’s team.
Silverwood is thrilled to add Harmer to the squad for the 2017 campaign and said: “Simon is an exciting cricketer who has played at the top level of the game for his country.
“We are pleased he has decided to join the Club and he will give us another high quality spin option in all formats.”
Harmer is equally excited to be joining Essex and added: “Playing county cricket has always been a boyhood dream of mine and to have the opportunity to fulfil that dream at Essex is very surreal.
“I am really looking forward to adding as much value as I possibly can to the team and making sure our time in the Specsavers County Championship Division One is a long one.
“I have only heard good things about the players at Essex and I am really excited about my future with the Club and contributing in the way that I plan.”
Ackermann signs for Leicestershire
Leicestershire County Cricket Club is delighted to announce the signing of batsman Colin Ackermann on a two-year contract.
Ackermann has an impressive first-class career record with 3,917 runs scored at an average of 39.17 including seven centuries. The latest of those hundreds, a score of 136, came for Warriors against Titans last week.
A former South Africa under 19s international, Ackermann has previous experience in the county of Leicestershire as he enjoyed a successful season for Kibworth in 2012. Ackermann also played a Second XI match for Leicestershire that year, top-scoring with 73 in a low-scoring match against Northants.
Ackermann is also a fine performer in white ball cricket with ten half-centuries and more than 1,700 runs made across the two competitions. Ackermann has a List A best score of 92 and a T20 highest tally of 79 not out.
The 25-year-old has a consistent record with the ball as an off-spinner, taking 62 wickets across all three competitions at a similar average in each format. Ackermann has recently been part of the Eastern Province side that won the Africa T20 Cup competition, top-scoring with 46 in the final.
Leicestershire CCC Head Coach Pierre de Bruyn said: “Colin is a quality top order batsman who can also bowl some useful off-spin, and he will offer us a good option in all three formats of the game. Colin will provide us with further competition for places and we look forward to him joining up with us ahead of the 2017 season.”
Can't say I blame him. He knows he probably won't get a look-in in the Test side anytime soon, so may as well maximise his earning potential and go make some pounds in the UK.OUCH - The drain of talent has begun like it did a few years back.
Gets to his hundred with a six, out next ball.Mulder 98* now
Merchant de Lange starting an over to #11 Myoli
Definitely. I'm sure there is a limit to the number of kolpak or overseas players that can play for a franchise. Warriors will be testing the waters. Can't say I blame him. WHAT A TALENT !Gets to his hundred with a six, out next ball.
Turning it into a big one as well....First Titans hundred in his first 4-day innings for them for future SA Captain - Aiden Markram.
Is Ingram a limited overs specialist, or just injured? Ackerman hasn’t got the best limited overs record and guys like Smuts probably offer more value in the 50 and 20 over stuff, so they should be able to balance not having 3 players who can’t represent the national team in the side. As long as the players going to England still play the domestic stuff that’s the most important thing. Guys like Ingram and Harmer may not be consistent international level quality players but they have experience and having them around strengthens the domestic game.Definitely. I'm sure there is a limit to the number of kolpak or overseas players that can play for a franchise. Warriors will be testing the waters.
Article over the weekend with Geof toyana and young mulder says he is a batting allrounder. Young mulder reckoned he would end up batting 4 but Geof reckons he will bat 6 as his bowling will be too important.Wow Mulder must be some talent. Any one have any idea what's his stronger suit??
FFS what a ridiculous start to a FC career!Definitely. I'm sure there is a limit to the number of kolpak or overseas players that can play for a franchise. Warriors will be testing the waters.
WHAT A TALENT !
He's massively underperformed in the long stuff.David Miller's first FC hundred in three years, and good to see him still playing FC cricket.
It is.Isn't this Mulder guy the young kid who took 7-8 wickets couple of days ago?
Ingram is injured. Had to have an operation. You right though - with the balance. JJ Smuts definitely just become a limited overs player now and a few years ago when Rudolph, MVJ, vd Wath, Hall, Du Preez, Harris and a few others I can't think of left - I don't think they came back and played FC cricket here ?Is Ingram a limited overs specialist, or just injured? Seeing this week’s fixtures it looks like the wickets are of better quality. You have to question the quality if Robbie Frylinck is getting 14 wickets for 60 odd and sides are getting bowled out in under 90 minutes.
