Haha nah he's not an ODI opening bat, by any means. Cribb has always wanted Devcich playing this junky troll role in Asia/WI.
I believe I made this argument specifically for T20s.

I do think this is his best OD role but despite that I don't think he's really good enough at it to actually be selected in ODIs.

Cribbage and the CPL disagrees, on a turgid surface. But there is an argument Cribb is spreading himself too thinly these days. Jack of all lower level cricket knowledge, master of none.

Haha it was so good because I was even vaguely aware of a right handed Shakib tearing up the Under 19 WC; I just associated him with "Miraz" while cricinfo was listing him as "Mehedi Hasan" on their team sheet. I see they've since edited that to call him Mehedi Hasan Miraz on that now.

The best thing about it was my absolute dummy spit about the selection of a player who they hadn't actually selected, for several posts, though. If I'd just shut up it wouldn't have been so good, but I absolutely let rip repeatedly.

Our lower middle order has been pretty bad in both ODIs and T20s for a while now. The common theme is Ronchi, a lack of any substance from number 8 down and unfortunately, Anderson, who's been disappointing in between the injuries after being hyped as such a clean striker of the ball. Yes, he is a clean striker, but far too easy to shut down by restricting his room to free his arms and limiting his options for easy singles. He then seems caught between really hitting out and trying to nurdle the ball around at a sub-par strike rate.

Yeah I've long told CW Ronchi and Anderson are bad news. Couldn't believe it when Hesson was pushing Colin Munro's desk right into that cluster**** of slow learners.

Let's not fool ourselves into believing we don't need my man Munro in both white-ball forms. ;)

It's been obvious to me for a while that talented players like Anderson and Taylor would do well to add just 1-2 shots to their repertoire, and they could do worse than take a leaf out of Munro's book by employing a reverse sweep.

Sure if you can actually play all the orthodox shots as well as move around your crease like a boss (i.e. Williamson, Kohli etc) you don't need the unorthodox shots, but these guys can't do that.

It's quite frustrating.

Oh the country's top writers aren't stopping at both white ball forms for Munro.

Midweek Fixture: A closer look at the Black Caps' unnatural selection - Sport - NZ Herald News

How does a guy like Colin Munro, who averages 48.2 in 40 first-class matches, miss out on a middle-order position to Henry Nicholls, who averages 36.5 in 42 first-class matches? What have Hesson and Larsen seen in that 12-run differential that has convinced them to eschew 120 years of wisdom that states that players with significantly higher averages tend to score more runs than those with significantly lower ones?

How does Ish Sodhi kept getting picked to play tests? He has played 48 first-class matches. He has taken 127 wickets at an average of 42.9 and a strike rate of a wicket every 11 overs. This is predominantly against NZ-domiciled players who have long struggled against spin. What in Hesson and Larsen's minds make them think he is then a candidate to regularly dismiss the likes of AB de Villiers, Steve Smith and Virat Kohli? Is the romanticism of picking a legspinner really enough to mask the obvious deficiencies? If so, why not take another look at Todd Astle, still young in spin-bowling terms at 30 and with a bowling average 10 runs better than Sodhi?

Even Mitchell Santner - I know, I know, he looks like he's got the goods - has defied an ordinary first-class record to play test cricket. Hesson and Larsen are asking a young man with a batting average of 28.5 and an unsightly first-class bowling average of 48.2 to be a test-ready allrounder. As it is, he is bowling above himself so far, though he average is rapidly returning to mean.

There are other anomalies, but you get the picture.

Not even watching but I can vividly picture Rohit doing his customary footballer-esque reaction to the most minor of wounds.

Rahane plays too many cheeky nudges through the slip cordon in ODIs - looks good when there are no slips, but he tries them even when there are slips positioned.
