**Official** England in Bangladesh 2016

Played for England Under 19s as a specialist offie. Didn't bowl a lot in senior cricket though.
Bowled way too much in ODIs, however much that was. I remember loads of ODIs where Flintoff was injured and without proper all-rounders the 10 overs that weren't bowled by specialist bowlers had to be made up from some combination of Solanki, Vaughan, Trescothick, Collingwood etc... Painful watching.

He still has the second highest average for a wicketkeeper in Tests ever, minimum 20 innings. Think he is safe for a few more series.
Only reason I said about him playing as a bat alone was basically if he had a nightmare with the gloves he could have them taken off him but remain as a bat.

Colingwood was a decent part-timer.

Telegraph reckons Duckett is going to open with Cook, leaving Hameed out. They were right about the squad so it's probably legit.

I'd pick Duckett over Hameed too but with so few batsmen in the squad I don't think we should have to. Ultimately it seems like we are replacing Vince with no one in the middle order and repeating the same mistakes that we made in the UAE.

It'll probably be fine against Bangladesh, and come unstuck against India. Need a huge winter from Stokes and especially Ballance to pull it off.

Ashley Giles probably better example, although he was better bowler and far worse bat than Moeen. He stayed in the team ahead of better outright bowlers because Duncan Fletcher loved '3D' cricketers.

Giles was in the team that won back the ashes so a good selection by dunc imo

I'd say if they don't pick Hameed then he won't be going to India. If Ballance fails then Buttler, a Bayliss favourite, will replace him. If Duckett fails he would have had his 7 Tests.

Not sure about three spinners but I guess it's understandable with no Anderson or Wood available.

Lets hope Duckett doesn't become the next name on the wheel.

Moeen more likely to get you out, Batty probably to keep the runs down. I just don't see the same player in the new/old Batty than you do clearly. He probably will be in on the evidence of today, but Moeen will also be in, as I say more for his batting ATM.

Slim pickings today, but Duckett certainly pressing his claims over Hameed, Ballance got some time at the crease, I think it will be:

Duckett
Cook
Root
Ballance
Bairstow
Moeen
Stokes
Woakes
Rashid
Batty
Broad

Should be remembered that even though I felt Batty had an average season with the ball last season, he did get a ton, so Broad whatever happens needs to bat at 11, where he belongs now.`
See, this team was easy to predict if you know your stuff.

Did ian Ward just call Batty Vivacious, not a word I'd use.

Even accepting Imrul Kayes as an opener, it always feels like Bangladesh are one genuine batsman short. Reckon Marmadoola/Shakib/Rahim all bat 1 spot too high, would genuinely be a decent 5/6/7 but they're stretching it at 4/5/6/.

Can Mominul be cloned?

Tamim
Mominul
Mominul
Mominul
Marmadoola
Shakib
Rahim

Now we're talking

Mehedi's an interesting pick. He's a teenage opening batsman who bowls a bit of off spin and they've stuck him at eight, presumably as the fifth bowler. It makes little sense to me as the presence of Shakib, Mahmudullah and Shabbir all in the top seven makes me think that relieving Mushfiqur of the gloves would've had a lot more upside to it than picking another batting allrounder who bowls spin. Moreover I would've thought Mosaddek and Nasir to be much better fits for that norounder #8+offies role if they wanted one anyway, although neither are in the squad for some reason (although Hom is!?)

The entire way they've dealt with that particular spot, right from the initial selection of the squad, is really so strange. It's such a bit part role that it probably won't matter all that much, but eh.

EDIT: Seems I half-confused Mehedi with Mahedi. I retract everything

Yeah Bangladesh selection is ****ed. 7. Mossedek/Nasir, 8. Das, how hard was that, really

Oh they've got Ian Bell in the studio. How awkward is it going to be when they talk about selecting the batting lineup.

Ian Ward actually introduced it as a selector (Angus Fraser) and someone a lot of people thought should've been selected (Bell).

Presumably they're grooming Mehedi for a proper batting position. Though I can't quite tell because he didn't bowl OR bat in the warm up.

Good times.
