So they announced the test squad :

Bangladesh's Test squad : Mushfiqur Rahim (capt), Tamim Iqbal (vice-capt), Imrul Kayes, Mominul Haque, Shakib Al Hasan , Mahmudullah, Soumya Sarkar, Taijul Islam, Mehedi Hasan, Sabbir Rahman, Kamrul Islam Rabbi, Nurul Hasan, Shafiul Islam, Shuvagata Hom.

Dont understand why Soumya is in the squad. The opening position is fixed. They tried Soumya in middle order in some matches and he failed to deliver. Hes not ready for red ball cricket. They retained Hom which is another mystery and out of all pacers they selected Kamrul which is farcical. And above all Mushfiq remains the captain ffs. After all these matches, selectors are yet to realize that hes terrible at bowling rotations and fielding placements.

The only positive is that good to see Nurul in the squad. I wouldnt still pick Shabbir in the test squad at this point though I am a big fan. He needs to play more NCL. Also wouldnot include Mehedi Hasan Miraz and rather try to groom him first. He has a good head on his shoulder but still.

Overall not happy with the squad at all.

What squad would you go for? I'd have picked Moses, Taskin, Shabbir, Gazi and Al Amin personally.

Kamrul has a lot of hype behind him doesn't he? What's wrong with picking him? And I know nothing of Mehedi Miraz.

And I'm not a huge fan of Hom, but he does a job and seems to be a lock for that batting at 7/8, bowling a few overs, non-rounder role.

Picking Mosaddek for ODIs but not Tests is so weird, especially considering he did pretty well in the ODIs. If anything I'd have it the other away around.

Rough on Nasir Hossain too
Yea forgot to mention him; I'd have him in the squad as well. Averaging 37 in 28 test innings with a 100 vs Sri Lanka (albeit in the same test Mushy scored 200 and Ash 190) and a couple of 90s against a strong WI attack. Also bowls and fields. Definitely deserves more game time.

Yea but I'd have him in the squad nevertheless. I don't mind picking him.

If there is domestic cricket in play I'd rather he play that than warm the bench ofc, but he has a future in Tests and should be groomed. He could even play Tests at number 8 as the non-rounder instead of Hom. But I wouldn't pick him as a top order batsmen in Tests, just in ODIs.

I'd have gone for moses for sure and taskin for short bursts. I know he has a history of injuries but atm he looks fitter than ever and thats the news from the camp. But I think they are trying to be over proctective. The chief selector included taskin in the warm up match to see how he goes keeping in mind to select him in the squad and it's scheduled to be announced tomorrow instead of today but chandika was against the inclusion of taskin so i think they didnt wait any further and announced the squad. As pews said, moses should have been in the test squad and not the other way around and this is very very weird. I havent seen a lot of kamrul but from what I have seen, he didnt look anything special. Bowls around 135-136 kph and good with the old ball esp. I would have gone for Abu Hider instead who can swing it in both ways. And definitely Mahmudullah should have been named as captain.

Rashid and Ball didn't play today. I assume from that Rashid is in for the first test and Ball isn't.

Gonna be tough for Cook going into the first test picking the lineup having not seen any of the bowlers bowl in the middle. Going to be relying on the judgement of Root, Bairstow, Bayliss and Farbrace.

Prob would've selected mosaddek for the squad, surprised miraz made the squad, not surprised they "hid" him from the practice match, he was supposed to play but didn't bat, pretty standard procedure nowadays with Bangladesh selection. Don't see the point myself, if you want to pick a player the goal should be to have them in the team long term, hiding a player isn't going to do him any favours in the long run.

Not expecting much from shafiul and rabbi but interested to see how rabbi will perform. Abu hider is a decent prospect who I think might've been worth a chance but rabbi has been waiting in the wings for a few years so hopefully he takes this opportunity and runs with it.

Shahid is injured.

Not sure what happened with Jubair. No domestic teams want him in the team because these teams want all these funky SLAs who are effective in these domestic matches but no where near got any skills for international level. Mosharraf is one prime example. Think BCB needs to have some alternative plan for Jubair's development.

Taskin can be used as short bursts in tests for now but if Mushfiq remains the captain then he needs to be told that he cant ground Taskin into bowling long spells as he has a habit of doing so. Also disappointed with the way that how Abu Hider is being treated. This guy can swing it in both ways with decent pace but not sure why he is not in the contention and not playing practice matches. I think there are some management issues with the bowlers right now and needs to be resurrected asap. Mustafiz was grounded to bowling playing leagues and matches that had nothing to do with his country. BCB should have imposed strict planning for Mustafiz.
BD has digressed a great deal as a test side in the last few years. It's like the more they improved in ODIs, they more they go backwards in tests and I feel these two things are connected and the blame rests solely on BCB's shoulders.

From 2006-2013, they were showing glimpses of improvement, they used to bowl out teams at least once and every now and then bowlers used to get a 5fer

Once they started doing well in ODIs, the board and to an extent the fans just stopped caring about Tests. It was like "we suck there anyway, no point focusing on it" and it's reflected in the way players who only play Tests are treated and handled by the board.

Shahid was a decent seamer but since he was only considered for tests, no one really cared much and now he is not fit although he hasn't played a test match in over a year.
Jubair was perhaps the first decent leg spinner BD had and look where he is now due to neglect and disregard. How the hell does he not find a FC team? Someone in the board should have identified him as a prospect and made sure he was looked after and got to play FC during the long breaks between tests.

The same thing is happening with Mominul now. Another 'test only' player who gets forgotten like Jubair and Shahid while the rest of the team and fans are celebrating ODI wins and they hardly play. Mominul hasn't had a score in any of the warm up games and I won't be surprised if he fails in this series and is ultimately discarded too.

Just that article on how few bowlers BD have to select from in their test side tells you everything about the BCB.

There's a video doing the rounds of Stokes refusing to shake hands with the BD players at the end of the warm up game. This series is going to be ugly in more ways than one.

Stokes didn't even play the first warmup game- and the second is ongoing.
Well I hardly think that matters, we're living in the post-fact era now.

Another 50 for Duckett and they've retired him out, presumably, and hopefully, resting him for the Test, Hameed grinding as he does though. Still selection is anyone's guess.
