#3 who bats at #8*true, india could have done with a specialist #8
As has been said many times before, Ashwin was not the same bowler any time before the last series down under. Cricketers do improve over time - look at Hashim Amla, Matthew Hayden for example.the same bloke who is destroying unzud this series didn't get a game on indias tour here because they knew he wasn't good enough and chose straight break jadeja to be the sacrificial lamb instead (and he was eaten alive).
ashwin is a fair weather cricketer, the bowling equivalent of turbinators posting.
helped protect his average at leastRandomly dropping Ashwin in those overseas tests was dumb as **** and I said so at the time.
Not when he kept getting dropped for the test which had a pitch conducive to spin (Adelaide, Durban, Southampton).helped protect his average at least
that doesn't really prove anything, Lyon is ****last i checked he's still a finger spinner. good luck with that in nz. not even herath had much enjoyment and he's light years ahead of ashwin
lyon did pretty well last year from memory
Ya Amla and Hayden continued to bat right-handed and left-handed too as far as I remember.last i checked he's still a finger spinner.
Yeah he's never really going to be a major wicket taking threat on Australia or NZ unless he gets a real turner.last i checked he's still a finger spinner. good luck with that in nz. not even herath had much enjoyment and he's light years ahead of ashwin

No finger spinner ever is tho. The best you can hope for in those conditions is keeping things tight, building pressure, and nipping out a wicket or two.Yeah he's never really going to be a major wicket taking threat on Australia or NZ unless he gets a real turner.
He might also help the team now by simply asking the captain to request pitches that slightly assist spin instead of rank turners, which negates the advantage of having a good spinner in the side. That way, our batsmen get to score and good spinners get to run through average touring sides. It remains to be seen but looks likely to head that way from now, with the occasional turner thrown in every now and then.Got to respect him. Cleans up at home but what else is he supposed to do ? And away from home isn't pathetic. Plus he adds value with the bat. Reliable.
Nice statto
Most 10-wicket hauls for India in Tests:
8 Kumble (132 Tests)
6 Ashwin (39 Tests)
5 Harbhajan (103 Tests)
Yeah the pitches this series haven't been complete square turners by any means and he's still cleaning up and dominating. Massive gap in quality between him and the rest on show.He might also help the team now by simply asking the captain to request pitches that slightly assist spin instead of rank turners, which negates the advantage of having a good spinner in the side. No one cared when he was dropped on away games before because he had about 100-150 wickets. And dropping him after his run now unless he is woefully out of form would look stupid now. So, now that he has secured his place in the XI, he should have more confidence and do well.Yeah the pitches this series haven't been complete square turners by any means and he's still cleaning up and dominating. Imo, if Ashwin can average 35 odd outside the subcontinent while continuing to dominate at home, then he'll undoubtedly go down as an ATG finger spinner. There were very obvious signs of him improving in overseas conditions on the tours to Australia and England in 2014. Have no doubt he'll go decent on subsequent tours.
Spot on.He might also help the team now by simply asking the captain to request pitches that slightly assist spin instead of rank turners, which negates the advantage of having a good spinner in the side.
