I was kind of hoping Kohli might decide being 2-nil up he might challenge his team to do the more challenging thing and bowl first given he won't always win it, but hey, who can blame him for batting :P

NZ fans & our losing the toss of late reminds me of the Chris Martin video at 6 seconds in .... "And... we've lost the toss...."

I think we would definitely trade Wagner for Gambhir. An attack of Southee Henry Boult has a lot less of a Test class drop than Latham and a cardboard cutout of a potato.
I wouldn't be trading Wagner hypothetically given how many of your seamers are new ball specialists.

Nah, Kohli knows he will have to bat second at some point or another. But more importantly it really doesn't make much of a difference, SA won the toss on a flat Bangalore batting wicket last year and got shot out for 200 with the spinners taking 10 wickets between them. Australia got 4-0'ed by India having batting first on all 4 tests, and England won both the tests batting second in 2012 when they won here. It's all about that first innings and whether you are good enough to take advantage. And the teams that have done that, regardless of batting first or second have won more often than not.

Wagner must be so dark seeing ****s like Guptill continuously selected when he's dropped at the first opportunity so often.

Unbelievable that we've ditched Wagner for Neesham. :(

Sadly predictable that we've retained Numptill.
Interesting that at the start of the series there was talk of a Boult, Wagner, Neesham attack with Neesham potentially taking the new ball, but now Henry has inserted himself in there after not even being in the squad.

I don't mind it for this test, however I hope Wagner is reinstated for the next test we play.

Yeah, It's absurd, Talk about the poor cousin.

Meanwhile, this wicket looks like a belter for batting first, Gambhir seemed to have all the time in the world to play that short one from Henry.

This is where we get outclassed. Bowling first three times in a row, and looks like this is the flattest of the lot.

Fleming just mentioned there's suggestions the pitch might worsen after Day 1, so might not be flat the whole time, but jeez how good does it look right now. Boult hitting a reasonable line and length & just getting easily put away on the up. Ironically I think this has been Boult's best start with the new ball in the series to date.

Incidentally this is the ultimate anti-Neesham bowling pitch. The perfect tall 135km inaccurate bounce bowler to be absolute cannon fodder on this sort of track.

I swear New Zealand have lost the toss in 90% of Tests they've played lately.
I wouldn't be surprised if the percentage of lost tosses was at 80 odd percent since 2014. Lost all the tosses in the UAE, make a green seamer at home and always lose the toss, and lost all of these.
