What a weird team this is. They go aggressive and attack at sometimes inopportune moments but then have moments like today when they inexplicably go a bit slow.

Yeah it's weird, he's in the top 2-3 of all-time in terms of catches per innings in both Tests and ODIs, and there's really no obvious reason. It's not like he's been in at 1st slip to the Windies the the 70s/80s or the Aussies 90s/2000s.
catch everything that comes your way and i guess you have a good ratio no matter the attack. taylor's had his fair share of clangers but i suspect they stick in the mind because his drops tend to be dollies.

he's taken his fair share of catches for sure

I know it worked in the 1st innings once, but it's also cost us twice now have the wide slip instead of the 1st...and always looks so much worse.

I mean 350 is not bad but I really think India should wait for 420 before declaring

450 to be on the safe side

Good effort from Santner in this innings, managing to keep things tight and improve from the the previous few days. Outbowled the two main spinners and I suspect NZ might bring in Neesham for one of them next test if he's fit.

at the start of this session India were paying 1.85 to make it to 300 by the 95 over mark

i thought that was ridic safe money considering what their intent must be

and i'm gonna get my money but damn they made it a little scarier than it needed to be

why would they bother sending out Jadeja just for 15 runs more

I feel like they're going for a 400 run lead, just taking way too long to do it
A 400 run target gives the batting side very little odds of winning and they might just begin blocking, hoping for rain. a 320 run target would keep them in the game and would call for risks, which would also give bowlers a chance to get wickets.

They are not going to block out Jadeja and Ashwin on this pitch.

Why has Wagner been used so sparsely in this innings? You'd think his "all-heart" style of bowling would be ideal for a situation like this..

That was ABDV and Amla.. Don't think NZ even tries that approach.
Watling in NZ v India 2nd Test 3rd innings played very very cautiously iirc.

Even faf and Bavuma managed to play out 35 overs between the two of them in the SA test, it's not impossible.
