The ATG Teams General arguing/discussing thread

IMO the ATG teams of the top 8 ODI nations could all beat one another on their day. A tournament between them all would be incredibly close.
I guess it's easier to think on skin in the game terms. On Aus vs Eng, if you had to, who would you put money on?

International Captain
Turner was about as good as ODI batsmen got in those early years. Even discounting his amazing average of near 50, his SR of 68 was above the likes of Greenidge (64) from that same era and he also arguably pioneered the 'chip-shot' for 2 between the in & outfield.
Nah, not sold on Turner. I feel his record is not given the same scrutiny as modern players. His two massive scores were against East Africa and early-doors Sri Lanka.

My selection & opinion of Turner is as much for the way he revolutionised ODI batting than just his incredible record, particularly the chip stroke for 2. I was too young to remember him in the early 80s, but I've been told the channel 9 crew used to gush over his ODI batting skills in the old Benson & hedges tri-series. One of the older folks like Burgey may be able to confirm.

The Lord's youtube channel has lots of players and ex-players naming their ATG lineups.
. Obviously it's mostly players talking about the best guys they played with, and it seems to be an unwritten rule to only talk about those you've seen. They don't strecth much into the past, not even for Bradman.

The most intersting one is Franklin's, who has evidently selected for comedy value.

He even has Tendulkar at #3.

Lots of them were comedy value tbf. I thought Bmac was providing something legit until he came to his no's 10 & 11.

I've been doing a draft on reddit with 8 players which is an all-time draft designed to finish with a simming tournament on DBC14.

Despite not getting one of the first few picks I've done pretty well because outside of the streamlining of this process on CW people have some ideas that are a little odd to our ears

My team so far

Len Hutton (picked round 3)
Sunil Gavaskar (r5)
Wally Hammond (r7)
-
-
Keith Miller (r4)
Imran Khan (round1, pick 6)
-
Dennis Lillee (r6)
Muttiah Muralitharan (r2)
-

Others have been doing things a bit differently

'Kana CC'

Adam Gilchrist (r1)

-
-
Lance Klusener (r6)
Andrew Flintoff (r5)
Dan Vettori (r3)
Abdul Razzaq (r7)
Wasim Akram (r2)
Makhaya Ntini (r4)

Vettori in round 3 lol. I guess 4000+ test runs and 350+ test wickets is not something many people can lay claim to

I think the most important thing about that is are people keeping to schedule? That's critical to any draft.

That team is almost like what you will pick if you had all your 11 picks in round #1. All gold tier.

interesting to see what people draft when they haven't been exposed to years on a cricket tragic forum like this with every last detail of a player's career being scrutinised. But if there's actually some kind of simming comp sounds like you'll easily win it Howe. Try and convince people to make it for money lol

Depends how the players are input into the mod's game though. I don't exactly think the chap will be consulting any standardised averages or the like. We'll see.

actually it already looks like you're gonna have a bowler too many with Hammond, Miller and Imran in your top 7. Will you make your keeper 8

Probably, the four keepers with really good batting records (Gilchrist, Sanga, AB, Flower) have gone so 6-8 will be the two allrounders and a keeper-bat regardless
