If they were to pick two spinners, why do most of the NZ posters here think it's going to be Santner and Sodhi?

Because Sodhi and Santner have incumbency. Which means a heck of a lot, if we take Guptill's case.

Should defs be Craig though. He's erratic like Sodhi but he as actually won us two tests in semi-SC style conditions.

No, he actually was talking about opening. He said he'd done it for Derbyshire ("admittedly with a white ball") and would be keen to do it.

I just heard that in a little soundbite during the news, so I didn't hear how the question was worded in the full interview - whether it's something that's actually on the cards or not.

Yeah it was Doull asking the questions, which effectively leads Neesham into what he said. Doull fresh from his comments about how Southee should be at 11, which became a dumb, 'everyday New Zealanders talk cricket' press and talkback story.

You have to trust that Hesson, Kane and the selectors are privy to more information than we are. Maybe Jeets was getting dominated in the nets by Santa's and Kane's spinners and they figured he just wasn't a viable option for the India tests?
If we trusted that this entire forum basically doesn't exist.

Geez, Howsie is going to be an angry man if/when Southee gets dropped. All fury will be scorned upon all non-performing non-ND players throughout the series.
Southee will play, bank on that. If they're going to drop a pace bowler it should be, and probably will be Wagner.

Lol don't worry the Bay's cricket expert - Anendra Singh has the answer to the Guppy problem .. making Latham keep? (I can't actually work out what he is trying to suggest here)

"The smart money will be on retaining young Tom Latham, a batsman who has been shuffled from the middle order to open and back and who also has the ability to keep wickets in the face of BJ Watling's inability to hang around." Cricket: Stags itching to step up - Sport - Hawke's Bay Today News

Wagner is the first pace bowler picked and Jesus Christ I'm as biased as they come and I think that Singh piece is vomit worthy. What the **** did I just give a click to?

No, I don't think that's what the article is saying.

He's saying Latham will retain his spot and he also can keep if Watling gets injured. It's very, very poorly worded though.

Yeah, should be "if BJ Watling is unable to keep".

"Inability to hang around" is criminal abuse of the English language, unless he really thinks Watling has an injury or commitment problem, which no one in their right mind can think.

It makes it sound like he struggles batting (which he obviously doesn't), given hanging around is sort of cricket parlance anyway.

Maybe BJ doesn't like "hanging" with the gang anymore or lacks the necessary social graces..

He's not, he's the third.

Wagner might be the most overrated player on CW now.

give it up. southee and boult at their best are considerably better than wagner obviously, but there is no way southee is bowling better right now than wagner. i'd play all three because i'd rather have a misfiring pace unit than two of our spinners, but that isn't what will happen.

You mean since he's taken 70 wickets @ 24 in the last 3 years and 39 @ 22 in the last 2, including a 6-fer in his only crack against Aust, having been sidelined to Bracewell?

Yeah, how dare fans rate him based on those numbers...

In contrast we have the great Tim Southee, who should never be denied the new ball... who's managed 54 wickets @ 40 in the last 2 years.

It will be the same team that played South Africa except for one of Sodhi/Craig in for Bracewell.

Dropping Wagner would be insane. Who is going to do the hard yards when India are two down for a billion?

Dropping Southee won't happen as him and Boult bowling well (there's a chance that Southee can come good) and taking some wickets with the new ball is one of the facets of the game that we have over India.

I'm not so sure about this anymore, and certainly wouldn't say 'obviously'... Wagner new 'best' is something none of us expected. You can't argue with his numbers in the last 2-3 years, they're world-class.

I would still say if Boult's in his very best form in favourable swinging conditions, he'd probably be above Wagner, but I wouldn't say the same for Southee anymore, only because it's been so long now that Southee's been anywhere near the best form he reached between 2012-14.
