The bias comes about because Jayawardene averaged 60 in Sri Lanka, but 40 Away from home. An Away average of 40 is actually pretty good, but put Mahela up against a decent bowling attack and his average plummets to 27.

So bias works both ways.

(But yeah, Jayawardene should be close to Laxman in the voting)
Why couldn't Laxman dominate at home like Mahela? It seems when people evaluate players away records are all that matters.
