Southee bowled poorly in his opening spell but came back well and Bracewell bowled better imho than people here seem to be rating. I mean he wasn't super threatening but he bowled in good areas and got a wicket.
Yep. That was the most encouraging part of NZ's performance. Apart from Southee's first session, no bowler was a pressure release. All the bowlers contributed. Indeed, that was the best I've seen Southee and Bracewell bowl at test level in a while. Low bar, but better than expected.

not sure if the article got miles here but steyn said he was willing to compromise pace for career longevity... very interested to see his speed

I've always thought of Steyn as a swing bowler first and a genuine fast bowler second so I reckon he'll be fine during that transition.

It's the likes of Johnson who can't afford to slow down.

Nah it stinks. When the world's premier bowler for the last 6-7 years has played 50 less test matches than the current England captain despite debuting earlier then something seriously needs to be addressed.
It does need to be addressed. And here is that address:

England play more tests than anyone else

Stupid rain.... hopefully outfield does not give problems. Could be an on/off day which does not make NZ batting easy....
