Are we still hearing from the "we should give Ireland more money, give them Test status, Dump Bangladesh instead, they're better than the West Indies" crowd?

The only significant contribution Sharjeel has made since he started playing ODIs for Pak, apart from a single half century. Let's hope he does well, but I don't think he will.

Harsh given that the guy hasn't played an ODI in 2 years.

I am not from the "Dump Bangladesh crowd" but I would say not giving Ireland enough money and opportunities to grow and develop might be one of the major reasons for their regression as a side, a bit like Kenya back in the early 2000s. They were clearly a better side than Bangladesh yet without support and money, cricket just died over there. When you're an Associate nation, you're lucky if you find a generation of top quality cricketers who can form the core group of your playing XI.
It's rare if you get that, but if you do, that's when your cricket needs the support and money to develop. Kenya had that in the early 00s, didn't get the support and died. Ireland might be heading in the same direction I'm afraid after their generation peaked from 07 onwards.

awta, people expecting associates to do it on their own are just brain dead. Look at the amount of $ Bangladesh have had over the years (and rightly so).

The big problem Ireland and the other associates face is a talent drain to full nations.

I know I'm going to be hit with the 'but Morgan/Joyce/Rankin are products of the English system argument but it's true.

Is that really the big problem? Losing 3 players not really good enough to play Test matches to a high level is the thing that has held Irish cricket back? Seriously disagree.
