It was hard work for the openers up front but nothing unexpected in a first session of a test match on a decent cricketing-wicket.

Honours even or SA just in front -but only just. Especially with our middle-order needing to step up (ie Duminy, Faf, Bavuma)

Amla has always been the type of batsman who eyes up a bowler and says "I am better than you" and then hammers him.
No it's just Amla spends hours with his video analyst analysing every single bowler and bowling patterns and then tries to put them on their backfoot early on.

Duminy making anything over 50 here would actually make the SA line up look pretty strong today batting wise. Quinny at 7 is a dangerous player.

I would like that and hate that.... because that may keep him in the team... but I want SA to get a good total. Conflicted am I.

Thankfully Amla has looked imperious but not invincible. Southee caught the edge and there's been the odd moment. Need an inspired delivery otherwise he'll hammer his obligatory massive hundred.

I think Southee went for the miracle delivery when he could have stayed on off stump. Easier said than done when he's not in the greatest of rhythm though.

Yeah Boult has looked a couple of levels above anyone else on show. Amla looking ominous, but he hasn't been dropped yet so a massive hundred isn't quite guaranteed.
