Olympics - does anyone actually care anymore?

Wow, that was a huge points race from Lauren Ellis in the omnium. It's a shame it only got her to fourth overall.

What's a good Aussie to do when their team has failed to bring home the Gold as anticipated except to bring down those above? Particularly, the Kingdom. Australia have actually done exceptionally well. The United Kindom's medal count is a slur on the game. Event after Event after Even of taking the piss out of every sane, sport loving person the world over.

Gymnastics -2 gold
Almost reasonable but not when you win something 'artistic' or on a 'Pommel'. Silly word. Men's floor excercise! What are you excercising for? That's what you win Gold for. Doesn't count.

Canoe -1 gold
A canoe is for kids. Just listen to the sound of the word. Get serious. You don't want it to count.

Cycling-Track -5 gold
Team sprints and pursuits are silly. Why are you riding choo-choo-train formation? This is a kids game. Kids can't win gold.
Keirin, Mate! What gives? You can't give out golds for events who think they're people. Can't count. It's immature.
Omnium! Only in an Omniverse... which is a comic book thing. More immature than Kierin

Diving -1 gold
Diving is awesome, until you synchronise it. Stop it children. Stop it! Can't give medals to children. Can't give medals to sports that people snicker at.

Equestrian -1 gold
Horses win the races but are not citizens of any country. Doesn't make sense. Putting someone on the back of a dancing horse is ridiculous. Will the British start being mature?

Golf -1 gold
There are some sports that should not be at the Olympics and golf is one of them. Doesn't count

Rowing -2 gold
One man in a boat, Hey! Two men in a boat, neryeah. But four men? Eight men carrying a passenger?!!! Now you're taking the mickey. They don't count

Sailing -1 gold
Why would you need to captain a wee little boat all on your own except if you were a spy getting away from other spies. In that case you should be manning a speed boat. Pointless Gold

Tennis -1 gold
See golf. Doesn't Count

Britain has done well to win 4 Gold medals in athletics, cycling, rowing and , yes, I'm ashamed to admit, swimming. But stop your mental smugness. I can hear it over here.

The direness kicks in two Olympics post-hosting. Understandably, countries get well up for the Games they host, and usually the athletes who excel at those Olympics are still around four years later. It's when the funding drops off a bit and the athletes who benefitted from the largesse start to retire that things get ordinary again.

Looking forward to the one us Australians excell at - the Post-Olympic Recrimination event.

Swimming and Cycling to lead off followed by the Hockey.

:)

Might not happen here as most of the funding we get comes from the National Lottery which unless it ends will carry on. Obviously we aren't going to replace the medals that Mo Farah has won as we have nobody to replace him but does anyone have an athlete of that ability anyway. The track cycling team managed to replace Hoy easily enough and Kenny and Trott will be around again in Tokyo so the cycling team should still dominate.

We seem to have done well in replacing medals in events we did well in last time and not here as well. Not saying in Tokyo we will do as well as here but I doubt we will drop off to be struggling to make the top 10 like the Aussies are.

Michael Johnson should really be a pundit for all sports.
Comfortably the best pundit at the Olympics, can't believe the Americans don't use him. Not that I complaining as we get to hear him, I just love the way he eases the experts on field events in with a little comment they can expand on too, just says so much that makes sense.

GBR has done astonishingly well over the years. Wish India showed at least some signs of life or improvement when it comes to the Olympics. :( I've just accepted that it's not going to happen.

I can't handle watching hockey after that men's quarter-final. I'll just ignore it for now and hope for a good result at the end.

Hockey is ridiculously frustrating (halfway cheering for the Dutch women's team because of friends)

I still find it bemusing that "aiming for the feet rather than the goal" is a valid tactic though, even though everyone playing the sport accepts it

Not looking good at the moment. First quarter we were terrible, though somehow managed to have the best two chances but didn't convert. GB dominating possession, though in the last 7-8 minutes of the second quarter we put them under a lot of pressure. In general, though, our passing is off, a lot of missed traps and tackles where we're not taking it cleanly and GB are picking it back up.

You'd think that foul and goal was the nail in the coffin.
Two goals is nothing in hockey, as our men's team know all too well.

Would help if we weren't so slack in front of goal though. Been all us the last two quarters, except for when GB ran down our end and scored.

That's not a stroke, that. First one was, that wasn't. She's flipped the ball past the defender and then let her momentum take her out; a stroke is for a deliberate foul in the D or a foot on the line stopping a goal, that wasn't either.

Been so poor from us though.
