Early isn't it?
They've revamped the league cup so we've got 4 group games in 9 days. League season doesn't start until the 6th of August.

Think part of the justification is getting more competitive games in earlier to help in Europe. Except the teams playing in Europe skip the group stages.

Sorts out pre season for everyone I guess. No need for games when you got the 4 in 9 days before the season starts.

But then there's a break, our last league cup game is on the 25th so we've got a 12 day break between that and the league campaign opening, we're filling the gap by playing Burnley on the 30th.

Is that all? How can a team be prepared for the season unless its travelled 18,000 miles to play 3 matches, 1 of which is against the local chinese/thai/american secondary school?

Things I dislike about the modern game: players changing numbers at clubs.

I'm quite weird in that I don't like teams lining up numbers 1-11 in this day and age, I like watching a team like Germany at the Euros where numbers 17, 21, 18, 13 and 23 were regular starters. I think there's two scenarios where changing numbers is acceptable:

1. When your favoured number becomes available because someone has left/retired (Jerome Boateng used to wear number 20 for Germany because Per Mertesacker wore 17, Boateng took number 17 once Per retired)

2. You're giving up your number so that someone else gets their preferred number (Oscar giving the number 11 shirt to Drogba and Fellaini giving 31 to Schweinsteiger are good examples here.)

Prompted by Danny Wilson being this season's number 6 at Rangers when he took the 27 jersey last season. He doesn't fit into either criteria because number 6 was available to him last season when he joined and it just bugs me that rather than wearing 25, 2, 4, 27 and 5 our keeper and back 4 now wear 1, 2, 4, 6 and 5.

Are we going to have to insist on a Richardesque 'this post was in jest' disclaimer in future, or by **** **** are you actually serious about that?

What about if you've had a **** season and want to change for superstitious reasons, and also, who cares
