My boy George Bailey must come into the middle order.
George Bailey will be a sitting duck on this pitch. He's easily the worst Australian batsman on crumbling pitches against quality spinners - and that takes some doing. ;)

numbers 6 and 7 over the past 18 months

Batting records | One-Day Internationals | Cricinfo Statsguru | ESPN Cricinfo

he's doing perfectly fine with the bat. it's a crappy spot to bat. the bowling side of things is more troubling, but that doesn't seem to be needed as much anymore.
meh. That's a list of a whole lot of all-rounders, bowlers who can bat and occasionally very ordinary batsmen tbh

It tells a tale that there haven't been a lot of good players at No. 6 in the last couple of years more than anything

That was the last game on this pitch afaik.

I believe the next games are at St Kitts, where 400 will probably be a par score

but guys the most important thing is that Lyon once again was part of the highest partnership for the innings

Next time the Saffas have as 8 or 9 for **** all they will fear Nathan Lyon striding to the crease

Well welcome to ODI cricket, where over limits and team structures means that over the course of ODI history number 6 averages 27. They don't get the same opportunity to pile on the runs due to time restrictions, and yes, they tend to be lots of all-rounders because teams need a guy who can send down a few overs in case things happen. he does fine for the spot. i don't like the role exists but it doesn't look like over restrictions are getting removed any time soon

All true and obvious, yet none of it enhances my opinion of Behardien. Australia's no. 6 in this game, Marsh, is also on the list and has better figures than Behardien, yet I doubt many would rate him "good enough" if he wasn't a pretty good bowler.

I know you've been using it even more ever since I pointed it out. Pretty obvious that you're baiting me tbh.

Mitch Marsh has been a genuinely good ODI lower middle order batsman, tbf.

This.

I'll tell anyone who will listen that I'm not convinced Marsh is the right #6 in the test side, but he's a gun limited overs player.

Yeah Marsh and Finch should be automatic ODI (and probably T20i) players for Aus. Absolute automatic.

Not really sure that in 2016 Elgar is the type of player to get that excited about in limited overs cricket, however on these sort of pitches he can do a useful job especially when you consider his bowling.

Of course. I doubt he'd be getting selected as a specialist batsman, however, which was the point.

Whether or not he should be picked as a specialist batsman if he couldn't bowl, is another question entirely.
