It's hard to get into today, but it has been like a normal day of Test cricket suddenly materialised.

Anyone think England drop Compton for the dead rubber? Not sure I see the point in retaining him unless the selectors actually believe he's the answer medium term.

If he gets dropped I'd bring in Borthwick, I think.

No idea what they will do but he has had 6 tests and done very little since he returned so if he does he get dropped he can't complain.

Bit of a frustrating 45 minutes at the end there. SL batted pretty well in favourable conditions but I'm disappointed the new ball spell wasn't more threatening.

Picked up a duck today. Doesn't seem like the time to pick him, doesn't seem more suited to 5 than 3.

Hopefully Sri Lanka knock off the runs so Cook can hit 10,000 tomorrow. He'll want that off his mind before a fresh test starts.

I like Borthwick a lot as a cricketer. I guess one of the selection criteria is if he is one of the top five batsmen in the country with the mental attitude to respond to test cricket. If he answers yes to both questions then put him in at three. One thing is for sure... he won't weaken the England side. Sadly Compton is so out of touch it's hard to see where his next score is going to come from.
