**Official** Sri Lanka in England and Ireland 2016

I'm genuinely interested to see how the Lankans pacers do, they really have potential, but it's not as easy as that to use the conditions that are alien to you, if you're not used to it, wasting the new ball is criminal, by bowling to short or wide. England do it enough and they're meant to be experienced at it.

I think the sun has got to me, but for some reason I'm really keen on Bell-Drummond being given a chance down the order, just such a talent.

I am interested to see how Chameera goes with the Duke. He bowled really well in NZ and going by conditions there's no reason why he shouldn't do the same in Eng.

Thirrimanne would make more runs than Dickwella IMO. But the benefit of keeping the gloves off Chandiguns are probably greater than that difference.

Maybe bat Kaushal at 7 and have him 'keep, with Mendis opening and Thirrimanne at 3 for extra #moneyball weirdness?

i know this will be as popular as a fart in a spacesuit but I do think that Thirmanne will do okay in English conditions..He tends to do ok on faster wickets and has a reasonable record in Aus too.. Personally I am not convinced about Dickwella but I suppose time will tell..
English wickets aren't particularly quick.

Essex's squad against the Lankan's pretty strong in batting, weak in bowling. Be interesting to see how young Lawrence does.

Might have been interesting to see Porter bowl against them, but you can understand why he's rested. Ravster to bowl them out and score a double though, to cement his glorious return to the English fold.

My best guess at a Sri Lankan side:

1. Silva
2. Karunaratne
3. Mendis
4. Chandimal
5. Mathews
6. Siriwardana
7. Dickwella
8. Prasad
9. Herath
10. Chameera
11. Lakmal

Mathews has confirmed that openers and said #3 would either be Dickwella or Mendis. It would be pretty amusing if Sri Lanka picked three keepers in the eleven but batted them all in the top four but it seemed like Mendis had the inside running from what he said, and he looked pretty solid in his two Tests at #3 against New Zealand too despite a pretty meagre First Class record. The #7 spot could go to any of the other batsmen in the squad really but (assuming he's not at 3 instead) I'm guessing it'll be Dickwella in order to have one of the keepers not batting in the top order, and Lakmal/Pradeep is a bit of a toss-up as well.
Fit and firing RMS Eranga is EASILY better than Lakmal. I would pick Pradeep over Lakmal if Eranga is not fit. Pradeep can bowl some serious jaffas and bit pacier than Lakmal as well.

I amused myself for a moment deciding that the numbers in brackets are for the age of the players.

Nick Browne (10)
Jaik Mickleburgh (32)
Tom Westley (21
Ravi Bopara (25)
Dan Lawrence (28)
Jesse Ryder (77)
Ryan ten Doeschate (27) captain
Matthew Cross (-) wicket-keeper
Aaron Beard (14)
Matt Dixon (30)
Tom Moore (33)
Callum Taylor (67)

I agree completely. I think the selectors may differ though.

I think the Lankan bowlers are a pretty solid unit, their batting the obvious issue.

I'd give Bell-Drummond a go as well.

Why does it say Chandimal's keeping rather than Dickwella?

As for the series itself, I agree with Howe when he says the bowling should go OK but the batting won't do much. I'll say England 2-0 for the series as a whole.

As for the England selection....I'd just give Ballance a reprive with Taylor sadly gone, and give Hales and Compton another series. If Hales fails again then England should consider other options (dunno who....Vince? Bell-Drummond needs more time I suspect)
