I think we don't see many good hookers of the ball these days, simply because they have no need to play a 'proper' hook shot.
Helmets have surely decreased the need to get inside the line of the ball while hooking; why play a riskier shot when you can stand tall and smack it, or ramp it over the 'keeper/slips?
The other option is the TPC overhead tennis smash. Those are always fun.
