The chart on that table indicates he scored some of the runs for New Zealand. The Shell Trophy was only three games of it, but Turner managed 1000+ in first-class cricket overall in 1975/76 - The Home of CricketArchive
I realise that we don't want to be England of the 1990s - but goodness we have some patience with spuds. My mind is already made up about Nicholls, I think he is passable in an ODI context and not passable in tests. I realise he has only had a couple of goes, but I have seen enough.Yeah Hesson and McMillan will find it hard to get Bharat competing with Henry Nicholls in their minds.
It's good work for a New Zealander to spray high enough onto the toilet wall to get some BBL recognition, not to mention being specifically sought out by Australian icons like Watto and Michael Hussey.
Rutherspud was definitely given too much time, but Nicholls hasn't been given any. If you don't give them enough rope to actually fail then they'll only keep coming in and out of the team like a lesser Hickrakash.I realise that we don't want to be England of the 1990s - but goodness we have some patience with spuds. Lol, Hurricane so cavalierly referring to spuds is so 2016. Love it.I realise that we don't want to be England of the 1990s - but goodness we have some patience with spuds. he'll get at least 10-15 tests. Don't mind the policy personally but not when it's given to the wrong players such as Nicholls in tests and Rutherford.I realise that we don't want to be England of the 1990s - but goodness we have some patience with spuds. "Mum and Nana come up [from Invercargill] for my birthday so they were watching, it was special having them there. My good mate from Christchurch [Tim Muir] come down for my birthday and he turned up when I was on 99, so that was cool."
His century come a matter of nine days after Duffy was cruelly stranded 10 runs short of his first century playing against Auckland.
Duffy run out of partners and finished unbeaten on 90.
So be it, Let him be a Hickrakash player then. We can't have a process of elimination for each possible candidate that lasts at least ten tests.Rutherspud was definitely given too much time, but Nicholls hasn't been given any. I know it's not the point here, but Duncan Fletcher said if he'd been coach in the 90's he'd have never dropped Hick or Ramprakash. So be it, Let him be a Hickrakash player then. We can't have a process of elimination for each possible candidate that lasts at least ten tests.
At some point you just have to size up their technique. He is a budget player than can potentially fill a role in the ODI side through sheer self belief. As gareth Hopkins found out, self belief doesn't help you in tests that much, you actually have to be good.
I am rambling a bit - basically I DWTA with you.
Edit - a number of other players hammered at the door this year in Plunket.
Nicholls hasn't done much wrong yet. Just because you don't like his aesthetics, doesn't mean he's incapable of cutting the mustard. After all, you'd never have given Steve Smith a second chance. So be it, Let him be a Hickrakash player then.
