Popli finishes 138* and in lead position for most runs this plunket season. I would say if he can double up tomorrow he may come into the frame for higher honours, his back and across trigger movement notwithstanding.

Double centuries seem to be what the selectors take note of.

With all these green pitches in late March, greener than the outfield. I guess we can assume the home teams need a result (and have no faith in their spinners).

What a shame that these late march rounds after a long hot summer are not seeing some brown turners, Pitch preparation fail. New Zealand fail.

I wonder though if Sodhi had been in the country if ND might have gone down the more 'natural' route. Especially with Kuggs out.

Astle has won it for Canty before at this time of the year. But with Henry, Bennett, Jamieson the lure of the garden hose was too great. And then Ellis ruins that anyway by filthing the wickets away from their rightful owners.

The green on the wicket in the ND v CD game has browned off alarmingly. Looks like somebody took herbicide to the wicket overnight.

Gibson getting smashed hahahahaha.

His wicket to get Hay is so troll too. Long hop slapped to midwicket.

Popli out for 170 odd which I don't think will be enough to oust Nicholls from the front running for the empty number 5 spot.

I was in Hamilton today so managed to head down and watch him bowl. Typical 'young quick' debut really, was just trying too hard to bowl flat tack. He'll be okay, he's only just finished school, not everybody is Tim Southee and ready for first class cricket that early. Big lad though, he looks more 28 than 18.

why did bracewell and small only bowl 29 of the 119 overs when the guys bowling 30 each were going at 5 rpo and bracewell had 2/27 at 1rpo?

i dont get that captaincy from young unless injuries or nzc orders.

Keeping in mind the front-end camera trap. Gibson looks like he has a lot going for him. After watching plenty of overs from domestics on the pooch, instantly on seeing a few deliveries from Zak I'm thinking he could be a cut above.

blokes making their FC sides at 17-18 have a reason to be picked tbh, even if they don't ever play tests. the FC team obviously has a lot of faith in young picks (unless they're Wellington under Stuart/Siddons, in which case they bat at #8 and don't bowl).
