Hot off the press:

Taita District Cricket Club have pulled off a major recruitment coup having attracted a current South African First Class cricketer - Obus Pienaar, who is moving to Wellington to further his cricketing career. Obus is currently playing first class cricket with the South African province Free State and has also turned out for the franchise team Knights.

His first class statistics suggests that he is a player of high caliber having scored close to 3500 runs in 64 first class matches including 7 hundreds and a career best of 212. He has also picked up 100+ wickets across formats in domestic cricket with his left arm seam bowling.

According to Taita Head Coach Sriram Krishnamurthy, the recruitment of Obus will bolster the club's premier squad and help them push to get back to Pearce Cup - "Obus with his skill set and experience will compliment our young playing squad, who have at various times this season showed us their capabilities to grow into bigger players for the club. He is a seasoned professional and has aspirations to further his cricket in New Zealand, so motivation would never be an issue. We are sure he will be an asset to us at Taita over the coming years and a role model player for our younger ones to follow"

Obus will be arriving in Wellington just prior to the 2016/17 season.

EDIT: Odd that Cricinfo refers to him as being a right armer, but Taita think he's a left-armer.

Hmmm. He has played, and scored first class tons at South African franchise level. Given the lack of depth in Wellington's batting at the moment, he's obviously looked at it and seen the opportunity of FC cricket.

One of his stated aims back when he was a Firebird was to never be seen playing the short ball like a ***** iirc, but that's clearly not the definition of 'mentally soft' you had in mind.
Pleased to hear it.

I hope I'm wrong about Kuggs', but based on what I've seen of him he does strike me as a bit of a 'soft' cricketer. Happy to be convinced otherwise.
it's because he always looks sad. before his court case i used to love him for his eeyore impersonation.

Good to see Craig bowl really economically again. Disappointed both he and Astle failed with their opportunities higher up the order again though.

The onus is on you to provide me with an upgrade to at least 720p and some better camera height then. Otherwise....

What's the go with Keir Bettley to those in the know.

I realise he just tonned up but you don't hear his name much at fc level and there used to be big raps on him.
He's just never made big scores consistently enough, really.

I have an interest in him as I knew a Bettley growing up in the Tron and it can't be a common name,

They did a 5 minute profile on the cricket show about him, touting him as a real prospect, 2-3 years ago now.
