That it has taken until this season, when he was already a 21 year old, for McClure to make his Canterbury debut still boggles my mind. Stuartish/Siddonsish selecting.

Joe Carter averaging 11 from 6 matches, Brownlie averaging 16 from 3 matches, Seiffert averaging 23 from 5 matches, Flynn averaging 28, Devcich averaging 27, Kelly averaging 11.

I guess that's why ND are languishing despite having 3 of the top 4 wicket takers, and the top run scorer, and Kuggs contributing with the bat.

Cricket: Injuries cut deeply into squads for North South T20 - Sport - NZ Herald News

A raft of injuries have hit both sides on the eve of the Origin T20 match at the Basin Reserve tomorrow.

Let's start with the North squad.

Test bowler Doug Bracewell, who injured his shoulder in the first test against Australia, is out. His place originally went to Northern Districts' Scott Kuggeleijn -- until he got a hamstring strain near the end of Northern Districts' last Plunket Shield match against Canterbury at Seddon Park.

That situation has opened a door for Auckland's big hitting, allrounder Colin de Grandhomme.

As for the South team, Neil Wagner's fractured knuckle, suffered during the second test loss against Australia this week, counts him out. Canterbury's former international seamer Hamish Bennett come into the 12.

And to wrap up the medical bulletin, Otago opener Hamish Rutherford has been ruled out.

He sat out the last Plunket Shield round after being struck in the head and has failed to get a medical test and his place in the South team has gone to Canterbury's Ken McClure.

Looking forward to heading along tomorrow. Hope the weather improves a bit from today.

I'd have liked to have seen Wagner play, but I can't say I'm too bothered about the rest of the injuries.

I think that's excellent captaincy! - Doull

Doull has always been one of McC's enthusiastic advocates, so to hear him say this only reinforces to me how improved Tails is as a captain.

Not a great advertisement for the concept of having North & South NZ teams in the Big Bash.

Argh those were some classy cut shots from Ross.

I need u like Henry Nicholls needs batting school
He was terrible in that series
I need u like Ross Taylor needed to be fit
He's way better than Henry Nicholls
And now all I can think about is your smile
and that ****** test series too
Losing to Australia sucked and I miss you

Yeah, Taylor's form was probably the best thing to come out of the game. I'd have added Henry's bowling if he was actually in the World Cup squad ...

Overall, a bit of a disappointing match, not really representative of the quality of NZ domestic cricket, imo.

Poor old Elliott seemed to get a shocker of a call ... damn NZ umpires! :P

Plunket Shield seems to have gone into a 2 week hiatus?

With the only interruption/cause being the inter-island T20 match?

A single 3 hour match causing a 2 week break? weird?

Oh well, at least that means the non-T20 blackcaps like Henry, Watling and Wagner are more likely to slot back in rather than having a 'rest' like some of them usually do after international commitments. Although Tom Latham is out having an ankle surgery.
