This has already been posted but handy to see how many NZers are contracted to English counties currently.

New Zealand internationals in county cricket
Matt Henry and Mitchell Santner (Worcestershire), Brendon McCullum and Mitchell McClenaghan, Hamish Rutherford(Derbyshire), Jesse Ryder, Adam Milne (Essex), Ross Taylor (Sussex), Neil Wagner (Lancashire), Kane Williamson (Yorkshire), Tom Latham (Kent)
(plus they forgot Neil Broom and Jeets)
That's pretty good, especially those playing in Div 1. Just wish they'd pick up a couple more of Craig/Astle/Sodhi and Jeetsify them for us. Yes I remember NZ has to pick those players enough times for that to pass the visa requirements or some such.

Rebuilding NZ will be interesting, because if you really think about it, we're only a swinging ball away from being a highly competitive side again.

Taylor and Santner come back into this team, you've got Wagner, Southee and Boult who if the ball does start to swing again, will be a good enough pace attack. You have Anderson who also prospers when the ball swings, suddenly your batting looks much stronger with only potential issues in the #2 and #5 positions, you're adding an accurate spinner who is improving rapidly every season and if the ball does swing, your bowling attack probably goes back to being world beaters.

What this series showed is that we need Plan B when the ball isn't moving in the air and that application with the willow is the major hole left.

Reversing the Doom and Gloom thread

Sodhi is looking like he could become a major weapon for NZ in all formats, Latham if he learns to convert starts into scores will form an amazing core with Williamson and Taylor, Watling seems to have his form coming back to him and Santner was the find of the season.

You can't rely on a single bowler to win you a series when you only pick him in the final match and also don't bowl him in the first innings until the Australian's were set. That plan should probably change.

Athlai

Not Terrible
Latham
Guptill
Williamson
Taylor
-
Santa
Watling
-
Wagner
Southee
Boult

The 9 guys I'd pick first to go to SA.

Anderson, Henry, Nicholls to round off the first choice XI + 1 on form etc.

The other 3 tour spots?

Smith, Neesham and I'm not sure.

Worker? Tastle? Milne?

Not sure how Sodhi taking wickets with long hops and full tosses is especially indicative of him suddenly being amazing, tbh. Some of his 2-fers and 3-fers over the years would have been far higher quality than the 7-fer and 5-fer in recent days.

What don't you know about agribusiness's relationship with the abacus? Next you'll be saying the Fonterra milk solids payout should be based on the aesthetic merits of one's cows.

Also Matt Quinn.

"Oh we still enjoy attending and pontificating on the cricket. Sadly our three boys haven't the slightest desire of sharing a two-star motor lodge with this uncouth Blocky man they hate, on the low-pay domestic cricket circuit."

Like-minded English and Wellingtonian mothers, finding common ground.

His 5-fer was relatively mediocre, but his 7-fer was full of gooduns.
(if dismissing kiwis with wronguns are considered gooduns).

Still goings at 4s, though.

Has certainly been declared the NZ-bowler-that-would-have-made-all-the-difference over on the Stuff comment pages.

I would still have Sodhi behind both Craig and Astle for the NZ tour of India. Though he'll play the ODIs.

Imagine if the Wellington playing talent really was commensurate with the CW posting activity. That'll be the day. We'll be pointing and laughing at Canterbury's wooden spoon hopelessness every summer.

Might go against the grain for Wellington supporters; the masochists' masochists. :p

But yeah who here lives in Christchurch/Canterbury?

Apparently Tastle had Sodhi out in the Plunket by dropping four blokes back on the leg side and intentionally bowling long hops. Short leg stops Ish from working the ones, he takes it on, holes out first attempt.

Tastle WAG.
