It annoys me to see such an ugly looking batsmen at the top of the batting rankings.
With his technique, the moment his form drops, his average will plummet.

It's not like he's a Root, Williamson, Khawaja or Kohli level talent.

Don't really see the need for the rush to finish before lunch. Not as though there's bad weather around.

How long do we have to suffer through this?

Question for mods btw

The moment anyone's form drops their average plummets. Because they get out cheaply. Often.

Give it a rest. The numbers speak for themselves.
Hussey used to average 85, Kambli used to average 90, Jimmy Smith used to average 80. Ponting almost averaged 60 once. Clarke averaged mid 50s.

Numbers decline, especially when techniques are bad.

Smithers defending rather than slogging to protect that average. Burns on the other hand gave his wicket away in the foolish pursuit of not taking lunch.

Sure, but his fall from grace will be spectacularly bad, too many moving parts to go wrong when the hand-eye isn't high.

So he might average 50 by end of career? Quite possible, but so what. Maybe by the time he's 34 his current approach of walking all over the crease won't work due to declining reaction speed. But by no means does this mean Smith has 'bad technique'.
