***Official*** New Zealand Domestic Season 2015/16

Not Terrible
I bet you place Wilson in front of him too
Nah, my opener preferences would see us go back to Spudderford one more time before trying Wilson out.

BS Smith
DR Flynn
DG Brownlie
MG Bracewell

Maybe Raval

HR Rutherford
BS Wilson

Just looked up Jeet Raval's form this year... ouch. That's a shocker of a season. Since Dec he has gone past double figures twice. Can't figure that, he's too good a player to go through a trot like this.

I'm a slight fan but he's always looked better than he performs. His one big ton per season meme isn't enough when his former opening partner Guptill tons up in his sleep at shield level

Nipped down to EPOO to watch some pre-lunch play. Blue sky. Brown pitch. Only 2 half-chances while I was there, thick edges off Ferguson and Nethula falling just short of gully.

Wouldn't be surprised if Otago have a dart at the 444 target if they are 2 down at tea.

Something about Wilson reminds me of my mother's porridge. Solid. Clammy. Sticks to the bottom of the bowl. Needs a big spoonful of brown sugar to make it appetising. But is very efficient at putting away Nethula's occasional long hops and full tosses.

I'm relatively bullish about the quality of Plunket shield, but at about this time of year things are starting to look a bit thin.

Eg. Theoretically: good seam bowlers who could be available during the season but are currently missing:
The test players; Southee, Boult, Wagner, Henry, Bracewell.
The permanent cotton-wooled; Milne
The injured: McClenaghan, Wheeler, Nuttall
The Kolpaked/passported; Quinn, Fuller
No idea: Mathieson

That's 12. If thinking 3 spots per team then 12 of the 18 best seam bowlers in the country aren't playing Plunket this round ( and this round actually had the positive of the welcome return of Bennett and Fergusson).

And I'm not including the useful looking, but still just pups, guys like Barnes and N Patel.

After 6 rounds: Popli is now top run scorer. Kugs extends his wicket taking lead, and ND now have 3 of the top 4 wicket takers in the comp. Yet ND lose again and are way back in 4th (almost last).

Bacon's on the road
Craig Smith is on the streets
You can feel it in the air
Summer's out of reach
Injured Nuttall, dire Duffy
The sun goes down alone
I talked to Kuggs' mum
Though I know it's all still sub judice

Immenso can tell you his love for the Shield will still be strong
After the boys of summer have gone

I agree with you that Popli should be (and probably is) that far away from NZ selection. but ironically Carl Cachopa did exactly what you state needs to be done. Got an NZ A tour, and scored a 100 away v SL A.

His decline is probably linked to his move back to the Auckland talent bottleneck where a single lean trot can mean dropping back into the club cricket/A team quagmire, and his susceptibility to the short ball (not exposed an on A tour the sub-continent).
Yeah absolutely, my point is that Popli can't be picked off one big season as Cachopa wasn't. Whether he should've played for NZ (I say no way) after the SL A ton is another thing.

How the holy hell do ND have 3 of the 4 top wicket takers and are 4th?

How long have you had that one waiting in the wings? Brilliant nonetheless

love the reaction from CD
The NZC cameras are still absolutely dawdling their way towards having sound to augment the Plunket footage though, aren't they. Plenty of fine and calm weather this season where a pretty basic mic would've worked serviceably, as well.

Perhaps the on-field language is too agricultural for this :/

Do the BSA ever come down on foul language via internet content though? NZC have given their blessing to Jeremy Wells to go live and filthy, after all.

It could also be a Sky contract thing, seeing it's the NZA and President's XI matches that have had the sound mics left up this season, i.e. the cricket that may not be owned by anyone except NZC. I also saw Auckland Cricket had an overseas fan telling them they really needed to add some sound to the DIY streams they were doing. They'd answer just about everyone else's questions in the chat box except his.

This is true. I'm surprised but pleased they haven't (to my knowledge) tried to prevent those ACC casts.

Wellington top of the table was sweet while it lasted ... I think the rest of the shield could be a pretty long haul.

Still the highlight of the summer after the 20-20 and one day campaigns though.

Will we ever see live internet video coverage of Plunket Shield or Ford Trophy, you think?

There must be an economical way to do it in this day and age.

Auckland Cricket did do it for the Ford Trophy. They were rewindable and easy to put onto a TV like all YouTube streams, just no sound from the ground.
