Pattinson is a must if fit moving forward for Australia. He's one guy I can envisage starring in an Ashes series. If he is ever ordinary, it's rare that it's in both innings
Agree with this. Best action in the world (along with Steyn) IMO

I love Patto and believe that he has the potential to be a superb bowler but .......

Starc is 6'6", left-handed, bowls at speeds of up to 160 and hoops it around, Haze isn't bad either whilst Cummins is potentially the best of the lot

It's a lot to ask but can we please, please have them available for selection at the same time?

**** the batting as the likes of Smith can take care of it

Just give us a full fast bowling roster and we will beat virtually anybody, anywhere*

*Wont happen, it's just a dream

 160 - the same test Southee clocked 154 right? We all believe those numbers.

Not Terrible
A guy who consistently bowls at 150-155 that bowled a full delivery in the middle of a rapid spell being clocked at 160 is slightly more believable than Southee who hasn't bowled at 140 in yonks suddenly getting a 20km boost from nowhere.

Starc is the best limited overs bowler in the world for mine but he's got a pretty long way to go in tests. High potential ceiling for sure but lacks consistency compared to... well quite a few test bowlers really. The home series against NZ pre-injury is the best I've ever seen him bowl in tests so I think there's some evidence he's getting there, but can't see at all how he's better than someone like Stuart Broad or Hazlewood based just on potential. He's never really produced for any sort of sustained period in test cricket.
Yeah this pretty much sums up my thoughts on the pecking order too. Just when Starc looks his best in tests he broke down. Was a real shame.

That would require Hazelwood to ultimately be the work horse and be able to bowl long spells while Starc and Patto rested.

Do you expect Hazelwood and Marsh to shoulder 35-40 overs per day between them burden while Starc/Patto bowl the 24-30 between them that they're best off bowling? With Lyon picking up the remaining 20-30?
Starc and Patto can bowl more than 30 overs between them. Patto bowled 12 overs yesterday and that wasn't even almost a full day. Pretty sure Haze bowled the best part of a 10 over spell in the first test.

I don't think workload is ever really an issue when you've got five genuine bowlers.

Starc regularly hits 150 all around the world so whilst 160 was a surprise, it wasn't exactly out of nowhere

Southee @ 154?

Guy has never driven that fast let alone bowled it

Considering how many bowlers throughout the last 15 years have reached 152-154kph versus the elite few who reached 160kph, I don't believe Starc got there. It's made more dubious that in the same match, Tim Southee who at his very best would top out at 142-144kph was able to find a 154kph ball according to the radar.

Lee, Akhtar and Tait are the only three who I believe ever bowled a true 160kph.

actually fair enough

but I was watching that Perth spell of Starc's and it genuinely looked 160. Never seen him come close to bowling as quick as he was in that game before.

other than being completely wrong, I don't see anything else really wrong with this post.

You're entitled to your opinion, carry on.
His opinion on Haze is another one of those Khawaja>Smith type ones i think. Bloke is living in the opposite world

Haze for me is the best of the three at present. Starc prob has the highest ceiling but there is no doubt that he has under achieved in tests so far. When fit Starc and Pattinson should share the new ball since both are genuine out swing bowlers who will respectively swing the ball away from lefthanders and righthanders. Haze should come in at first change.

If they all perform at the full capacity along with Marsh providing the 5th bowling option, it would be an attack and a half really. Fitness is the biggest issue obvs

 Jingoistic pride. Can't possibly talk about the GOAT in realistic terms, nor point out Hazlewood isn't the worlds best bowler as much as you will it to be true.
Ugh

"GOAT" refers to Lyon's standing as the highest wicket-taking offie in the history of Oz cricket

NOONE regards him as the best bowler in history (least of all himself) and NOONE regards Haze as the best bowler in the world

Whether he hit 160 or not, that Starc spell was absolutely glorious. He was bowling in the right areas with genuine pace.

FWIW, I thought it looked quick enough to be 160.

i like the way the boss casually blocked it and drove starc straight back past him for four during that spell

it was the spell all the "taylor is a lazy kfc eater and can't play genuine pace" types slunk away forever

not that any new new zealand posters in this thread would know about that....

Yeah that surviving that spell should exclude you from ever being criticised for not playing against legitimate pace. Had a wicket fallen early in that spell the whole order could have ended up bowled/lbw to Starc
