Wonder if it's just the hot weather producing a lot of dry pitches, but it's been a good year for the spinners. Jeets, Tastle and Sodhi all in the top 10 wicket takers column with good averages to boot.

I think weather has something to do with it, and the scheduling - round 4 out of 10 was in early Feb - and the spinners have been making hay since then (Although Astle front loaded with pre-xmas wickets).

General impression from looking at the video, the neighbouring wickets on the block look very dry.

Popli must be close to being selected, just a bugger he will likely play next to no cricket for the next six months and our next test series is in the off season.

Maybe Seifert will become a good T20/ODI player at some point down the track. But every time I see him he seems incredibly wild and unrefined. Like a vastly inferior version of Baz (or a vastly superior version of Raki - now it's time for my own Sadface.gif).

We saw footage of him 2 years ago in some match. He did seem to like to have a bit of a hoik. He probably needs to lift or some other prodigy is going to come along.

Carl Cachopa, anyone? He'll need NZ A selection, and runs, before going near the top side.

Look at Raval's profile on Cricinfo and his previous scores, pretty incredible turn of form.. He knows how to score hundreds though, something not very common in NZ cricket. Would love to back it up in the final rounds, that would really push his claim.

I agree with you that Popli should be (and probably is) that far away from NZ selection. but ironically Carl Cachopa did exactly what you state needs to be done. Got an NZ A tour, and scored a 100 away v SL A.

His decline is probably linked to his move back to the Auckland talent bottleneck where a single lean trot can mean dropping back into the club cricket/A team quagmire, and his susceptibility to the short ball (not exposed an on A tour the sub-continent).
