Think that's expecting a bit too much. Stokes a vastly superior bowler , and I don't think Anderson is ever going to be better than a handy 5th bowler as opposed to the genuine bowling allrounder that Stokes is.
Yeah I haven't seen much of Anderson bow in Test's but I thought he was pretty decent in ODI's. He could be the one to go to to get the tail out? He looks like he can bowl a heavy ball.

He can muscle it through in the low 140's when he has the mind to do so, but doesn't really have the control to build pressure in tests. Can be a handy contributor when it's swinging, but just bowls too many 4 balls when it isn't.

I am concerned about the helter skelter start by NZ. Guptill took two deliveries off middle and off and hit them, in the air, on the on side. I'd rather he defended or drove those straight. If we are to get anywhere near to saving this Test, we have to play a lot better than that. If anything we need to follow the way Oz has played i.e. defend the good balls, leave the wide ones and score off the bad deliveries.

Anderson's bowling ceiling is something like that of Watson's, which is pretty damn good and more than handy, IMO.

That's great, if they get support from Wagner or someone else also averaging 30ish and 4 wkpm that's a really strong attack if Anderson can perform like Stokes has for England recently, infact NZ and England's attack are incredibly similar with Boult and Southee as Jimmy and Broad and Corey and Stokes big hitting all-rounder's, Santner and Ali spinners with very good batting ability and Milne/Henry similar to Wood.
The answer is Jacob Duffy but he's going through a Steven Finn forget-how-to-bowl phase at the moment.

For those keeping track at home, that 50+ partnership makes this our 3rd most successful ever for the first wicket.

Behind Edgar-Wright 12, Franklin-Wright 10.

This was Guptill and Lathams 6th.

YOU DO NOT NEED TO PLAY ALL THESE ATTACKING SHOTS SO SOON z
Don't mind it with Gup. He just doesn't have the defensive game to play a rear guard. Reckon he'll last longer (and score heaps more runs) playing like this than by engaging his brain.

haha yessss that's how you play for the draw

yeah agree with bahnz - guptill lasted 100+ balls for 20 odd in australia. 100 balls playing ODI cricket he'll be in the 80s.

Yeah Guptill should just play his ODI game.

WTF! What is Guptill doing?! Perhaps he's peeved off with not getting an IPL contract and is showing off his T20 batting ability? He had no clue where that ball went. Just leave it mate, let it go to the keeper.

Right, both these batsmen have now got starts. They've seen off the brief period of swing from the new ball and have generally looked comfortable. This has been a bit of a danger time recently, we can't afford to relax and just expect the runs to flow easily from now on.
