lol and people call the Aussies FTB's, this match showing we're no better.

No technique, none of these players are good enough to score on good tracks.

KW included, can't recall one innings on a track with assistance for the bowlers.

Hazlewood is the most underrated bowler in the world, and Rahane the most underrated batsman (outside CW)...still remember I picked both in a draft long back, but people didn't vote
Not by me on Hazlewood. He is an out and out gun. Height, enough pace, can swing it or seam it, hits deck hard, very good natural length. Dunno what else you'd want.

The pitch is doing a bit but if you're not prepared to leave - as we have so clearly shown we aren't - then you'll deservedly be 100 all out at lunch. Weak.

Want to make a really OTT generalised post about "modern batting", "building an innings" "McCullum's influence" "lack of ticker" "lateral movement" etc etc.

It would probably have a fair bit of truth in it. But I won't.

Yeah that is an incredibly bad shot from Nicholls. Debutant so don't want to bag him to much but FFS that is 7th stump line.
Got out that way couple of times in the ODI's so not a complete surprise.

This is fun in a perverse way. Been a while since the last deer-in-headlights act from NZ.

Let me help you. Same ground, SA, 2012. No one else scored more than about 10.

But yeah it's an art in itself to leave, and be prepared to be 50-0 or 1 at lunch. The essence of Test cricket at times. But whether we saw a couple fizz to the boundary and got carried away, I dunno. Woeful batting.

Ya but most people rate him below Starc and Johnson. I'll be surprised if Haze ends up with poorer career than those 2.

Nah

Haze is generally regarded as a good bowler that is still a bit inconsistent with line & length

Don't think that he is underrated at all tbh

I'm not watching, so I'm REALLY interested to know whether the movement is lateral? Or vertical? Or longitudinal?

Can't recall the match but going by the scorecard...

In the 4th innings, against a SA side with Duminy as there only spinner after they had declared 474/9 and 189/3.

The batsmen he outscored were Guptill, Flynn, McCullum, Brownlie and Vettori.

To be fair, with the constant change from Tests to T20s to ODIs, and the fact we haven't played a Test since December it's no wonder on a pitch with a bit of movement we're in the situation like this.

It also doesn't help matters that most cricket pitches these days are batting paradises that don't really test techniques and give players records that are totally undeserved.

Hooray, Anderson off the mark. Being a left-hander a big advantage against these bowlers - just gives a few angles to score from, despite the bowler's accuracy. A fair bit harder for RH Watling to find angles for runs here.

not taking any sides, but if you have to go back to 2012 to find an example it kind of proves his point doesn't it?

59/5 on a sporting wicket isn't the end of the world guys. Our openers are average and Taylor is injured.

It'll happen.
