Yasir Shah tests positive for banned substance

I think part of it is that it was over masking agents whereas the penalties discussed earlier in the thread were about confirmed steroid use which doesn't really seem to have been raised in this case.

Still surprising, I was expecting at least six months to a year.

The ban rules Yasir out of the current Pakistan Super League, the upcoming Asia Cup and the World T20, and he could make his return for Pakistan only during the tour of England in June.
Oh for ****'s sake.

I must say that I was looking forward to seeming him bowl down here next summer, as since Bishoo didn't play for WI I have yet to see a good leg spinner down here in the time I've followed cricket (Danish Kaneria in '09 doesn't count).
But I think is just sending the message that you can get away with such things nearly consequence free. I mean heck, Warne got a year, so why not a year for Shah? I thought there was supposed to be less leniency in that sort of thing now. Apparently that ain't so.

His B-sample was positive so it is very likely, but I don't think anything has been decided AFAIK.

Is there even any advantage to doping in cricket? Very strange to hear about this case and the Kusal Perera one lately.

Of course there is. Not as much as in something like pure athletics such as track and field, but there absolutely is an advantage.
