Going by figures just in the 70s, you'd pick Chris Old ahead of Botham (more runs at a higher average and strike-rate, more wickets at a lower average and economy rate). Botham's ODI record was never anything special.ODIs- by decade

To be fair, picking a really unbalanced team with no quicks in it would probably satisfy the meaning of the exercise as put forward by Pratters the best anyway. There is basically no pace bowlers who fit.
Technically, so would picking a team of 11 quicks that got bowled out for 100 in every innings. To be fair, picking a really unbalanced team with no quicks in it would probably satisfy the meaning of the exercise as put forward by Pratters the best anyway.
Indeed. I don't think there are actually eleven quicks to pick from though.Technically, so would picking a team of 11 quicks that got bowled out for 100 in every innings.
McGrathWhen all is done and dusted, there is a chance that Ian Bell may well end up in contention for being one of the worst specialist batsmen to play 100 test matches. As it stands now, he probably pips Carl Hooper and Stephen Fleming. Not that that is terrible company it must be said. -TEC

Bell actually has a very similar record to Steve Waugh at 5 and 6 although his overall record is closer to Mark's. The not-outs have a huge effect on Swaugh's average, give him the same number of NO as his brother and his average is 44.If Bell is in the team then Waugh is in the team. Very similar players.
That's because Steve was good enough to not throw his wicket away.Bell actually has a very similar record to Steve Waugh at 5 and 6 although his overall record is closer to Mark's.
