Starc isn't even 26 though. Bond is 40. He played 82 ODIs in an era when people playing 200-400. Not enough really.

hey pratters, how does it feel to be on the wrong side against kiwi for once?

starc is going to push for that team in future but right now he's no where near it because he has less games than the most injury prone world class quick of this century. that tends to suggest he needs to play more before we can sub out someone like McGrath, Garner or the greatest left armer of all, wasim ****ing akram

ODIs- by decade

Only choosing players in one decade.

1971-1979- these were formative years, no one played many matches.

Glen Turner
Dennis Amiss
Ian Chappell
Greg Chappell
Clive Lloyd
Asif Iqbal
Ian Botham
Rod Marsh
Dennis Lillee
Bob Willis
Derek Underwood
Going by figures just in the 70s, you'd pick Chris Old ahead of Botham (more runs at a higher average and strike-rate, more wickets at a lower average and economy rate). Botham's ODI record was never anything special.

Some others in contention (not in the 80s team) would include Majid Khan and Lance Cairns, and keepers Alan Knott and Ken Wadsworth (Based on county cricket you could make a case for Farokh Engineer).

When all is done and dusted, there is a chance that Ian Bell may well end up in contention for being one of the worst specialist batsmen to play 100 test matches. As it stands now, he probably pips Carl Hooper and Stephen Fleming. Not that that is terrible company it must be said. -TEC

So, what's the worst test xi from people who have played 100 tests?

I can't have Gayle as a better player than Atherton. Gayle is a good test batsmen, not arguing he is a hack but given his era/strength of competition I would take Athers just about.

To be fair, picking a really unbalanced team with no quicks in it would probably satisfy the meaning of the exercise as put forward by Pratters the best anyway.
Technically, so would picking a team of 11 quicks that got bowled out for 100 in every innings.

If Bell is in the team then Waugh is in the team. Very similar players.
Bell actually has a very similar record to Steve Waugh at 5 and 6 although his overall record is closer to Mark's. The not-outs have a huge effect on Swaugh's average, give him the same number of NO as his brother and his average is 44.

That's because Steve was good enough to not throw his wicket away.

Oh and M Waugh> Bell surely. I'm usually not one of the 'Oh 90s bowling was far superior so that automatically makes the 90s batsmen better' blokes, but it has some truth in this case.
