They both have a single century in tests. Both have grit. Both have courage. Only one is accomplished against spin.

A century in Bangladesh and a 50 in the UAE don't measure up to brownlie. Brownlie is also a top order batsman and not an allrounder with a license

No arguments on Corey's potential, but a 4, 5, 6 of McCullum, Anderson and Santner..I think that's asking for trouble. Was justifiable playing Corey at 5 in the UAE given the surfaces and opposition bowling, not convinced in this case.

What about playing BJ Wattling as a specialist bat at 5, Anderson 6 and bringing Ronchi in. Does he still play? Watling averages 37 and is comfortable a better bat than either. I reckon he should go down the Mc Cullum route of giving up the gloves soon.

I'm sure Hesson is looking at this as a legit option.

Good idea in theory and it worked at Leeds, but Ronchi almost seems detetmined to make single digit scores these days.

Yes, should definitely play Santner. What do people reckon will be Australia bowling line up?Bird or Siddle or Sayers for that one remaining spot. I'd definitely pick Bird.

Corey hasn't even played in Australia or South Africa so yes very fair goal posts. Let's compare the countries they have both played in:

Corey in England 38 (admittedly only two innings)
In New Zealand 29

Dean in England 13.75
In New Zealand 22

The telling stat is the in New Zealand as that is where this series will be played. Dean's High Score is 36 in 7 innings.

Where do you even come up with comments like "let's not even pretend the two batsman are in the same ball park". They are in the same ball park. They are similar players skill wise. Corey is younger and hasn't fully reached his peak yet so you pick him.

I get the feeling since people just finished watching him score 85 of 40 deliveries that people think he can't play a test match inning. The recency effect. 50% of my opinion is based on my last impression.

I think you just want to be a contrarian. For a start Dean has only recently started opening as you know, and secondly it will be his qualifications in the middle order and past contributions to the black caps middle order that will make or break his case in terms of his suitability for replacing Ross Taylor.

If we were talking about replacing Guptill then everyone would raise Dean as an option but not Corey. But I suspect you know all this already,
