Laxman making eminent sense when he said to the effect that "Dhoni hs lost his old big-shot hitting capacity which makes it worrisome when he scores so slowly at the beginning of the innings. He needs to alter his strategy to get into a decent groove early even if it is 75-80 strike rate so that his innings does not put this kind of pressure on the team"

Harsha Bhogle finds it difficult to agree even with this comment which is very nicely put without any great criticism of the Indian captain.

And with the decline in Dhoni's ability, the team's strategy has to change as well which tbf they are showing signs of getting it right in the last two games.

After watching Dhoni's batting tonight, I would be insulted if I were a specialist batsman and batted beneath him in the next ODI. Completely unable to hit off side shots, his six over long off notwithstanding.

Good series, Aus lucky to get away with 4-1 imo. India could easily have won a few of those games at least.

I don't think he'll forget he lost the match he scored his maiden ton in by not bowling very well. Whether it'll 'haunt' him it's impossible to know though.

If the only issue with my post is the overly dramatic emphasis of the game 'haunting him' which implied him waking up the middle of the night with cold sweats, I am happy to play with semantics and find better wording. It will be a game which he remembers from time to time and certainly for the next two weeks. It will take away from his confidence to a degree. He will remember it.

Even when Dean Jones asked a very pointed question about whether India should have brought a leg-spinner and whether there is no good leg spinner to consider, Laxman could only say He wouldn't fault the selectors (typical Indian commentators' diffidence in saying anything against the 'establishment') for choosing the best bowling side available. And then on being pressed about a leg spinner mentioned Karn Sharma "who is young and inexperienced". Neither he nor Bhogle mentioned Misra. I have always maintained that there are favourites and non-favourites in the Indian game. The former need just one performance to be talked of as 'valuable' for the team (Jadeja is an example in this category) and the second category men are dropped at the slightest pretext. - Misra is one such.

It is sad that Laxman should fall into this trap since he was treated exactly that way for many years as was Mohinder Amarnath before him.

I wish the TV network could select the commentators independently of the BCCI's role in it. We would see more useful analysis from the Indian ex-cricketers which today is pitiable compared to those from Australia or England for example.

Laxman criticised them not selecting Ashwin. He probably mentioned Karn Sharma as he is from the franchise he is mentor of and has seen him closely. Laxman's problem is poor articulation and fumbling at times. His points are fine usually. Bhogle, the less said the better.

Sanjay usually commentates but skipped this tour I guess. Was commentating during the home series v SA. Siva was also there during the same. Siva is commentating the domestic T20 competition for Star. Some how, they never include Siva for overseas tours.

Nah.. not with the bowling we have... Your bowling was ****, our bowling is just a bigger pile of ****. And even if some of these youngsters are good in the field in terms of speed across the turf, the sizes of the grounds in India means they do not really have such strong arms like your boys. Australia will be very hard to beat at home in this generation too. Only SA would probably field sides who have comparable fielding abilities in terms of both speed and throwing but they have gotten into their own mess anyways.
