There were a lot of journeyman keepers around who were pretty solid, Jaaskelainen and Sorensen and Friedel etc. It's not too long after we signed Van der Sar for 3m.

Even in his worst seasons Arsenal finished pretty close to top anyway. You have to think that any semi-competent keeper would have won them at least one title in those years. Although it was the height of their Chokery so there's a chance that any challenge would have ended with Eboue kneeing someone in the back in the penalty box or Gallas crying on the pitch.

Haha, the mention of that Eboue incident reminded me of that time in the unbeaten season in the game against Spurs when Lehmann, for no apparent reason, decided it would be great to strangle Robbie Keane when Spurs had a corner.

Was pretty grim at the time, but pretty funny looking back.

Hardly, it was in stoppage time when we were winning the league at White Hart Lane.

What was particularly mad about it was the strangling only started once we'd cleared the ball...

**** I loved Lehmann. Mad bastard.

That booking he got vs Wigan for timewasting is one of the funniest things I've ever seen in football.

Sky changed the date of Arsenal v Leicester today despite it only being in three weeks. It's so poor given they decided not to televise it when they made the decision at the end of December, even though they made up the top 2 at the time.

At the time it seemed worse than it was. In the end I guess it didn't matter, as the league was still wrapped up, but it deflated things a bit to have that game end in a draw in the manner it did. The way Lehmann stormed off down the tunnel afterwards with his head down and didn't come out to celebrate kind of sums it up.

Yeah, he was. He never really made especially flashy saves, but I remember one occasion, in the game where Arsenal played Real Madrid at Highbury when Raul tried to dink the ball over him and he stuck up a hand to tip it round the post and it was just brilliant.

Edit: In fact I seem to remember his performance in the first leg at the Bernabeu was really good/important as well. I guess it had to be considering Arsenal's defence that day was made up of Eboue, Senderos, Toure and Flamini.

Very strange to post this but Jeremy Kyle has just had Kenny Sansom on his show trying to get him to go to rehab. Very sad story but Arsenal fans may want to take a look if it is available on catch up.

**** me, Arsenal are odds-against at home to Chelsea this weekend. Looks like punters are attaching a lot of weight to their recent (i.e last 10+ years) head-to-head.

That could be the first time the team in 1st has played the 14th-place at home in January and been odds-against in... ever?

It's one of the few matches where really anything could happen and I wouldn't be that surprised. Suspect it will finish 0-0.
