Not for me I'd have to say.

Herath has been comfortably the best so far, but it seems like it will end up being either Lyon or Ashwin (unless Herath lasts for another few years). Probably a bit late for anyone to emerge from England, NZ or SA. Yasir Shah ****ed it up.
Oh forgot Ashwin, yeah, probably likely to be him.

Mind you I don't really see Herath retiring any time soon despite his age, he's not really going to hoover up T20 contracts, and he spent a long time in Murali's shadow.

EDIT: ignore just read this......

Aww that's a shame. Absolute trooper who we can thank for introducing the term 'roly poly' to cricket discussion everywhere

If you just go on the first half of the decade so far:

Alistair Cook (6229 runs @49)

David Warner (4467 @ 51)

Kumar Sangakkara (4851 @ 61)

Hashim Amla (4566 @ 60)

AB DeVilliers (4368 @ 59)

Younis Khan (3856 @ 60)

Ravi Ashwin (176 wickets @ 25; 1204 runs @ 31)

Ryan Harris (113 @ 23)

Dale Steyn (234 @ 21)

Jimmy Anderson (281 @ 26)

113 wickets don't really make you a decades great in modern cricket, IMHO, Harris was great for a small amount of time not 10 years.

Broad has taken 257 @ 26.89, with 4 years to go.

I don't get why so many people had Tamim, weird.
He had just hit back to back tons in England despite his team getting thrashed which grabbed a lot of attention. There seems to have been a dearth of good young openers coming through at the time too, the next most popular was Hughes who wasn't even playing Tests then.

Pretty poignant thread, this. A lot of people predicted the Prince to form part of this team. You'd think he would certainly have made his way back into the Australian team over the past year or so given retirements/ injuries etc. I mean, he was always a lock to be in the top two or three FC run scorers in the country. Makes me sad.

Well, there's only 10 players listed so you could have both. Though going by averages you might pick Philander.

I mean hes also averaged 44 since 2010, Bangers just don't play a lot of Tests. Aside from Cook and Warner there isn't really anyone who has done all that much better than Tamim in this decade either.

I'd meant to do XI but forgot a keeper, but then again Sanga and AB are both there.

Angelo Matthews and Steve Smith probably the other guys who might slip in. Would be fine with Broad in place of Rhino but I prefer Rhino.

Surely Graeme Smith would have been a good pick? He'll be 35 next month so if he had retired by the time he got to 36/37 that's 7/8 years in the 2010's.

Yeah Smith averaged about the same, they'd be my 2nd XI openers for the 2010s at the moment.

Must admit that my thoughts on this thread were clearly people who contributed most through the decade, just can't see how the likes of Harris or G. Smithactually are contenders,

Sorry for those who believe in specialist openers but:

Warner/Cook (choose one - dasher or stonewaller - I'd probably go Warner for balance)
Amla/Williamson(makeshift opener)
Sanga
Kallis
Younus/Smith
ABDV (wk)
Shakib
Ashwin
Broad/Johnson/Philander/Anderson
Steyn
Harris

Apart from Steyn there are no great bowlers like sides of the 80s/90s/00s but having Shakib and Kallis as 5th/6th bowlers makes up for this

Picking Kallis/Sanga goes completely against the point. You wouldn't pick Viv Richards in a team of the 1990s

At least Younis is still playing but surely you expect he'll be outscored comfortably by 2020 by Williamson or someone.
