***Official*** Pakistan in New Zealand - T20/ODI series - Jan 2016

... Anyway perhaps all this means is that he shouldn't be an opening batsman in T20 since it is essential that you go over the top while the fielding restrictions are in place.
Disagree totally. Kane played a matchwinning innings chasing a 170-ish score. A combined 4 (20) from #4, #5, #6, #7 and #8 lost it for NZ.

Yeah that's a pretty woeful batting scorecard, Munro excepted. The first 50-odd balls of KW's innings were about the worst he's played for years and put us under a lot of pressure, but if even one of our middle order batsmen had actually contributed we might have got away with it.

Massive victory this in the context of Pakistan's LO form. I have been saying for a while that they had the right players and skills, just a matter of playing the right combination. Imad Wasim made a massive difference to the team towards achieving that balance, and Gul's right arm variety with those fuller length deliveries in the end made a difference.

Overall you could tell just how well Pakistan were prepared for this series and this victory will give them a lot of confidence that they are in the right direction. They bowled excellent lines to NZ batsmen, set great fields, and overall the energy level was great.

Yeah 2 catches still dropped but that's inevitable.

Overall seemed to be dumb batting from the Kiwis today. Didn't see a plan against Wasim, looked like they hadn't done enough video analysis.

They could see in the 1st inning that the ball was stopping and holding a little, but both Anderson and Ronchi were dismissed when pushing bats out ahead of their pads.

But good to see us tested against a good bowling attack.

As a 90's kid, it's kind of comforting to know The New Zealand Batting Collapse at the Hands of Pakistan is still a thing.

god, do we even have a middle order
The middle order does look flimsy. On paper Elliott-Anderson-Ronchi-Santner, is a decent lineup, but they're very undercooked at the moment. Against a quality attack, need Taylor in there and wouldn't call Latham a waste of space either.

Don't get the fuss about KW's innings here. Struggled early on sure (credit to Pakistan here) but recovered well enough to almost win it off his own bat. 80-odd to get in ten overs is more than gettable for that middle order, they succumbed to a combination of brainless batting and Pakistani smarts.

This had such a 90s Pakistan game feel to it. A top order batsman (Usually Anwar or Inzamam) setting up a score which was kind of spoiled by a quick flurry of wickets in the end, then while bowling, an early wicket, a partnership threatening to take the game away, then a fast bowler (Usually Wasim or Waqar) knocks out one of the highest scorer, and then just quietly chip away and bowl out the team.

The worrying thing about the NZ middle order is that Elliot and Anderson are averaging below 20.

Huge wake up call this match was for us. Seems like NZ came in underestimating the opposition and also without any clear planning. Definitely need to do the homework on these guys so we can devise and execute the plans we need to win. I take away 4 positives from this. Milne's bowling under pressure. Williamson recovering from the guptill situation and still striking their best bowlers with some wonderful shots under pressure...Tendulkar-esque. Santner's ability to tie an end up. Last but definitely not the least, Munro's game seems to be getting there finally. Here's to NZ coming back in the next match and putting on a professional, disciplined performance to tie the series.

Pak played very well but it was a close game still. Had's KW's flick gone for four instead of being caught at square leg the game was still live.

Like the CWC final, though, you can't have 3 of your icingest players make 0 between them and hope to dominate.

Despite all the hitting ability, NZ's middle order players have never really excelled at T20 like Baz or Guptill. It's cost the side many a time at the world cups.

As far as the World T20 goes, it's not the greatest time to be searching for Baz's replacement even though Munro has come good. Elliott and Anderson are welcome additions to the side but both are coming off long layoffs. Ronchi has played some good knocks in the past but seems to have become a lost cause. As for Santner, it's expecting too much of him to be a middle order lynchpin at this point. Onus on Guptill/KW/Taylor and on Munro to continue his run.

just saw the highlights. Gul getting a bit of a stick but generally good pace from the Pakistan pacers. Also loved some of those gul Yorkers.. Probably the best ball of match for me his Yorker that got a wicket. if he can get back those Yorkers with regularity then he'll do well.

Star was Wasim who hat yet another cracking game. An all rounder who will be very important for Pakistan in the next few years. Shame he missed pretty much all the four day season though, good record in that format as well.
