13th Match: Victoria v South Australia at Melbourne, Nov 28, 2012 | Cricket Scorecard | ESPN Cricinfo

He bowled a spell of five overs which was pretty much entirely in excess of 145, and maxed out at 153. All the planets have to be aligned for that sort of thing to happen with him and I suspect he was holding back a little bit yesterday due to nerves. I don't really rate him very highly in general but in terms of the 'velocity policy'. he's at least capable of satisfying it.
I saw him bowl quickly in a couple of Matador Cup matches last season but, for the most part, yesterday was fairly representative of his level

Fair result. India should be happy the match kinda looks close. That's the best result they can hope for with the team they have - non existent batting beyond Rohit and Kohli, and weak bowling. A clean sweep is on the cards unless Aussies feel generous and slip up in their intensity(which they won't, most likely).
Lol @ non existent batting. If there's one batting side in the world that is best suited to ODIs on these pitches, it's India.

Thought Australia bowled pretty poorly too tbh. It's understandable to an extent when both teams have some inexperienced bowlers, but there was a lot of leg stump stuff in the first innings of the match which TPC will be pissed off at.
The main issue for me was the lack of skills in the middle overs. Both teams bowled poorly during that time which allowed such a huge partnership in both innings. I think it's a combination of a few things. Both Indian and Aussie bowlers lacked the skills to an extent to pick up wickets and slow things down, plus the pitch offered no turn.
If the ball doesn't turn in a ODI game with 4 fielders outside, there's absolutely nothing Ashwin can do to stop people tonking him.

The other problem for Australia was lack of any movement. Two key ingredients which the teams could have relied upon to turn on the brakes were missing.

god i hate the way the australian team is made up atm; no spinner, to many all rounders, wade coming in at 8.

it's effective but it just looks ****

Is Nevill a poor ODI batsman or are Australia's selectors poor?
List A spud. Has to open, and even then he's not particularly great. I wouldn't mind him if Wade got injured, but he'd be playing as a specialist gloveman and nothing else.

Yeah, but having to go back to a random List A game in November 2012 to provide one instance of him bowling that quick doesn't really satisfy the 'velocity policy' of consistent 140+.

If the selectors rate him and want to pick him, fine. But they really need to stop with the whole 'specious Rod Marsh justification' thing before it does become a meme, especially when the next decision they make seems to completely invalidate the first piece of reasoning.

Just watching Robelinda';s excellent extended highlights of India's three test tour of Australia in 99-2000. Still think the Tendulkar lbw ducking McGrath is one of the funniest dismissals I've ever seen,. Probably because it was just so weird for such a great player to get out that way.

Yeah, no spinner just gives it a weird look.
Maxwell is actually pretty ok as an ODI spinner. Having three quicks plus getting 20 overs out of a combo of Maxwell, Faulkner and Marsh has gone well for the WC and will probably be persisted with in Australian conditions.

You know I've seen a few great batsmen get out in a weird or awkward fashion..one of those things when you plan long enough I guess

Do you? Ok, lets say I don't. Explain to me what you think they indicate.
lol why? It was pretty thoroughly discussed and resolved if you want to read back. Repeating it now would be mind-numbingly pointless and sad tbh.

Seriously get a life. Not sure what you're hoping to gain from this. I'm saying this to help you.

Man I'd forgotten about that, I remember it as a young lad. Was shocked.

Seriously is this not the single most dire thing one can post on an internet forum??
genuine good advice IMO

If I was wasting my time trying to fight with people for no reason, with nothing to gain, whether in real life or on the internet I'd want someone to really hammer it into me tbh

Internet forums should be a place to learn and discuss common interests, and if you're using it as an escape to try and make yourself feel better by abusing other people or fighting then your real life needs a long hard look at.

This thread has been a disgrace so far from what I've seen. Literally I've just come in, made a relatively obvious observation and then been attacked for 3+ pages by people who inexplicably decided I've said several things that I obviously never did. Just when my faith in humanity gets restored by said people realising and understanding their errors a new ****** appears and tries to start everything up again, fuelled by even more ignorance than the initial guilty parties.

deeply disturbing
